agag ear macro bee Application filed October 1921, hematite. 5699855.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THoMAs B. WINNETT, a citizen of the'United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los'Angeles e and Stateof California, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reenforced Collars, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a reeniorced collar, to the principal object of my invention being to provide mens and boys linen collars with reenforcin elements, preferably sections of fabric, an which latter are preferably located between the sections of material that l are utilized in the construction of the collar,
and said reenforcing means being located at the points that are subject to the greatest wear and strains while the collar is being laundered, thus materiall increasing the at life or period of service'o the collar and at the same time providing a construction that will tend to cause the collar to retain its sha e while being worn.
urther objects of my invention are to he provide a reenforced collar that may he easilg and cheaply'produced, and which will be e ective in materially reducing the tendencyof thecollar to break along the lines where it is folded.
view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement of parts that e il be hereinafter more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the at accompanying drawings, in which :v
Figure l is an elevational view of a section of material in tape form, and which may be utilized as a reeniorcing member for collars of my improved construction;
Fig.2 is a perspective view of a section of? the reenforcing material bent to pro er for insertion in the end portion e o coar.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a portion in accordance with my invention. 3
Fig l is an enlarged horizontal section taken approximately on the line dl oil 50 e 5 is a perspective view or a collar having its folded over upper edge reentorced in accordance with my invention.
In producingreen torced collars of my innproved construction, a relatively narrow With the foregoing and other objects in structure, capable of strip otffiexible material, referabl v closely? as woven fabric, is. inserted etween t ebuten and inner sections 11 and 12 of material that and 12, and secure said inturned edges to re the edge of the reenforcin strip by one or more rows ofstitches, an which arrangement firmly secures the reenforcing element in position within the body of the collar.
The inner portion of the reenforcing strip 275 extends downwardly between the sections of material forming the inner band of the body of the collar, and the buttonhole 13' that is formed through the inner portion of said collar is also formed through the end porso tion of the section of neeniorcing material. Thus when the section of material 10 is roperly positioned in the end ortion of the ody of a'collar, it reenforces t e edge of the bodyof the collar at said inner end, and also to reentorces the front buttonhole, and likewise reeorces that ortion oi the body of the collar that is to ded over to form the inner and outer folds or sections of the collar.
in some instances it maybe found desirto able to extend a relatively narrow section of reeniorcing material the entire length of the collar and along the line where the same is folded, such construction being illustrated in Fig. 5;. ere such provision is made, so the collar is reentorced against I along the line of this fold, and as aresult the lite or term of service oi the COllhilE prolonged.
reeniorced collar that is of relatively le hein easily and cheaply produced, and very eective in per= j. its intended ctions,
he derstood that minor chs gen in size, form and construction of the various arts of my improved reentorced collar may he made and substituted tor these herein the spirit of my invention,
shown and described without departing from g t e scope of which is set forth in the appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. A reenforced collar comprising outer and inner sections having their edges folded inwardly at their ends and a reenforcing strip placed between the inwardly folded edges and reaching from one edge of the collar to the other edge across the end.
2. A reenforced collar comprising an outer section and an inner section, reenforcstri ing strips inserted between the sections at their ends and extending from one side edge to the other side edge, and a reenforcing inserted between the outer and inner sections substantially half way between their side edges and extending from one cross reenforcement .to the other cross' reenforcement so that when the collar is folded it is reenforced along the folded edge and so that when the buttonholes are made the material is reenforced'around the buttonholes.
3. A collar comprising an outer, section and an inner section, the end edges of the two sections being folded inwardly and a reenforcement inserted between the folded v edges and extending some distance from the folded edges and extending from the outer side edges to the inner side edges.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THUS. B. WINNETT.
