UNITED GEORGE A. LEFORI, PENTALEON DUBE, AND L JOSEPH ST. PIERRE, OF MONTREAL,
QUEBEC,
CANADA.
TOOL FOR RESEATING ANT) RESURFACING VALVES AND THE LIKE.
Application filed September 2'6, 1921.
T all whom it may concern.
Be it known that we, GEORGE A. LEFORT, Piw'ixannox Dunn, and L Josnrrr S'r. PIERRE, subjects of the King of Great Britain, residing at Montreal, in the Province of Quebec, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tools for Reseating and Resurfacing Valves and the like; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in tools for reseating and resurfacing valves and the like.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a tool which can be used for resurfacing the valves and also for reseating the same.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a tool such as above referred to, including a plurality of reversible cutters which when in one position can be used to resurface the valve and when in the opposite: position can be used for forming a new seat.
Still another object of the invention is the provision of a tool such as above referred to which will be comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and effi cient in use, and readily operated.
With the above and other objects in view the present invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing forming a part of the present application, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the tool;
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view thereof;
Figure 3 is a perspective view of one of the cutters removed;
Figure 4: is a top plan view thereof;
Figure 5 is a view showing the tool used to resurface the seat; and,
Figure 6 is a similar view showing the tool used to resurface the valve.
Referring now to the accompanying drawing by corresponding characters of referenee throughout the several views, the numeral 7 designates in general our improved tool which consists of a cylindrical body portion 8 having spaced openings 9 formed therein Serial No. 503,434.
the lower ends of which receive threaded plugs 9 for regulating the depth of these openings 9. Side openings 10 are likewise provided which enter into the openings 9' for the purpose of engaging the tools and holding them rigidly in the desired position:
The lower portion of thebody is squared or formed angular asat 12 in order that the same may be clamped in a vise or the like.- A central opening 13 is provided in the body portion 7 and is provided with a bushing 14 which may be renewed in case of wearing.
In operation for reforming a new surface on the valve the cutting elements 11 are locked in the positions shown in Figures 1, 2, 1 and 6, and the stem 15 of the valve is threaded through the bushing 14 so that the beveled surface 16 of the head 16 engages the cutting edges 17 of the elements 11. By rotating the valve the old surface will be removed therefrom and the new surface cut thereon. In using the tool for resurfacing the seat the cutting elements 11 are reversed as shown in Figure 5 and a valve stem 18 may be inserted upwardly through the opening in the bushing 14: and the cage 7 which has the seat 19 at its upper end placed over this stem 18. By rotating the cage 20 a new valve seat 19 will be cut.
Obviously the opposite sides of the elements 11 are fiat so that the screws which pass through the threaded openingslO will lock them "in both positions against dis placement.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing it will be manifest that a valve reseating tool is provided which will fulfill all of the necessary requirements of this device, and it should be understood in this connection that various minor changes in the specific details of construction can be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the in vention.
Having thus fully described the invention, what we claim as new and desire to pro tect by Letters Patent is:
1. The herein described tool comprising a body portion having a central opening therein, spaced openings arranged concentrically with reference to the central open ing in the. body, cutting tools mounted in said openings, screws engaging the cutting elements for locking them against displace.- men scr thr ded, h ttoms the. Openings for regulating the depth thereof.
2. The herein described tool comprising arranged therein, reversible cutting elements located in said openings, screwspass: ing through the sides of the body portion e te ng he open s f r g m n with the cutting elements; and. locking them i i position, screws; threaded in the bottoms, of the openings for: regulatingthe height ofthe cutting elements, substantially as, and for the purposes setforth.
3. The herein described valve tool comprising a body portion having a central opening formed therein, and; concentric op in pa ed ametr c y h f r-- ence to the central opening; and, concentric a body portion having a concentric opening thereto, a bushing disposed; in the central openingiofv the. body portion, the; lower side of said. body portion being squared to form ppq it ng me ns. lo ki g. r s passing through the sides of the body portion, enteringthe openings formed therein, cutting elements mounted in the openings and locked in position by said screws, the opposite sides of; said cutting elements being fiattened, said cutting elements being reversible and vertical movable screws threaded inthe bottom of; said openings and regulating the vertical adjustment of the cutting elements, substantially as andfor the purposes set, or h- In itn f e h ro q W ve e n o set, nrhan e GVEQR GE A.
