UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARMELINO GULFI, OF BOSTON, AND GIOVANNI LANFEANCHI, OF BEACHMONT, A`
i MASSACHUSETTS,
GUE.
Application ined october 25, 1922. serial Nq. @6.804. Y
To all whom it may concer/n.:
Be it known that we, CARMELINO GULF! and GIOVANNI LANFRANCHT, citizens of the United States. residing at Boston and Beachmont, respectively, in the county of Suifolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and vuseful Improvementsin Cues, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in cues, the general object of the invention being to provide spring' pressed tips for the cue for absorbing shocks incident to the tips striking the balls. Another obj ect of the invention is to make the tips removable so that anew tip can be put in place when the old one has become worn.
This invention also` consists -in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement ofthe several parts, to be hereinafter fully described,v illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding yparts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is an elevation of a cue constructed in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a view partly in section.
Figure 3 is a detail view of the block used in this invention.
In these views l indicates the cue which is pro-vided with a bore 2 in its tip end in which is slidably mounted a block 3. A spring 4: is arranged in the bore and tends to hold the block in its outer position. The block is limited in its movement by means oi the screws and the nuts 6 which engage notches 7 formed in the block. The outer end of the block is provided with ascrew threaded hole 8 for receiving the screw 9 45 which lis carried by the flanged elements 10 y secured to the tip 11. Thus the tip can be removed whenever desired and a new one substituted. The springV acts as a shock absorber so as to take up the shock incident to the tip striking a bal Y It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and'novel ,features of the invention will be readily apparent.
We desire Iit to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fallwithin the scope of the appended claim.
What we claim is Y e0 A cue having a b ore in one end, a block slidably mounted in said bore and being provided with diametrically oppositely arranged notches, a nut varranged in each notch, screws passing through the side walls 05 of said bore and received by the nuts for limiting the outward movement of said block, a coiled spring having its end'convolutions engaging the bottom of the lbore and the inner end of the block respectively 7( and a iianged element carrying a tip 'and being threadedly mountedin the outer end of the block for lthe purpose specified.
In testimony whereoiI we aiiix our s natures.
GIOVANNI LANFRANCHT. oARMELrNo GULFI.
