' WRITING KIT.
Application filed November 11, 1922., Serial No. 600,303.
placed upon the market as a unit and which will embody all articles necessary for personal correspondence. It is customary for one to purchase a box or package of writing paper and envelopes and to similarly make separate purchases of ink, pens, pencils, erasers, and Various other articles required in conducting correspondence. The aggregate cost of these articles, it is believed, can be somewhat reduced by placing them upon the market for sale, collectively. Therefore, the present invention has as one of its primary objects to provide a combination of articles of stationery arranged in a compact and desirable manner and capable of being placed upon the market and sold at a reasonable cost. It is also a recognized fact that where articles of stationery are purchased separatelythey are liable to become misplaced, and therefore not be available when their use is required. It is therefore a further object of the present invention to provide a compact arrangement of the various articles employed, in a box or case where all will be readily accessible at all times and where misplacement of any article will be avoided.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view, of the article embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a top plan view thereof with the cover removed;
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
The article comprises, essentially, a box which may not materially differ, in its exterior form, from the ordinary boxes in which writing paper and envelopes are sold and which box is indicated in general by the numeral 1, the body of the box being indicated by the numeral 2 and the top or cover by the numeral 3. The body of the box comprises a bottom 4, sides 5 and 6, and ends 7 and 8. The cover comprises a top portion 9, depending sides 10, and ends 11,
and is adapted to be fitted on to the body of the box in the usual manner, being preferably recessed in its end walls as indicated by the numeral 12 so as to permit of its more ready removal when it is desired to gain access to the articlesof stationery contained within the box.
The, interior of the body 2 of thebox is divided by a partition wall 13 which extends longitudinally thereof and parallel to one of the side walls, as, for example, the
wall 6, being located nearer to this wall than the opposite wall 5. Another partition Wall 14 is arranged within the body of the box and extends transversely between the partition wall 13 and the said wall 6 nearer which.
the wall 13 is located. This partition wall 14, the walls 6 and7, and the partition wall 13, define a compartn1ent15 within which is disposed an ink well 16 preferably held in place by applying adhesive to its sides, as indicated by the numeral 17, so as to unite its sides to the several walls defining the compartment 15. This ink well may be of any ordinary construction or design and its mouth is closed by a stopper 18 which ,may be either frictionally fitted into the mouth or threaded into the same, and preferably the parts are so proportioned that when the top or cover 3 is applied to the body of the box, the top portion 9 thereof will rest flat upon the upper end of the stopper 18 to thereby provide against accidental displacement of the stopper with a consequent loss of the ink and damage to the other articles of stationery contained within the box.
A partition wall, or partition wall sections, indicated by the numeral 19, is arranged within the body of the box and divides the same into compartments indicated one by the numeral 20 and the other by the numeral 21, these compartments being defined by the said wall or wall sections 19, the side wall 5 of the'body, the end walls 7 and 8, and the partition wall 13. A supply of writing paper, indicated by the numeral 22, may be arranged within the compartment 20, and a supply of envelopes indicated bythe numeral 23 may be arranged within the compartment 21.
A transverse partition wall 24; is arranged within the body 2 and extends in a plane parallel to the partition wall 14 and between the side wall 6 and the partition wall 13 and this wall, together with the said wallsv 6, 13 and 14, defines a compartment 25 within which stamps, erasers, and various other small articles may be disposed.
If desired the partition wall 14: may be,
' with the walls 6, l3 and 8, provide a compartinent within which various articles may be stored, as, for example, a small blotter, ink eraser, small'ruler, etc. The holders 29 are preferably in'the form of clips which are attached' to the respective walls 6 and 13 and which are open at their upper sides, being therefore adapted to receive the pen or pencil .as the case may be, oneend of the pen'stafi or the pencil being supported by the respective clip and the other end by the flange 26 upon the partition wall 24;. The cli'ps29 are located relatively close to the upper edges of the walls 6 and 13 as is also the flange 26 so that i when the cover 3 of the box is fitted on to the body of the box, the upper sides of the clips will be closed by the top portion 9 of the said cover and the said articles will be retained in place. i 7
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is: I
In an articlevof the class described, a box provided interiorly parallel to one ofrits side walls with a longitudinal partition extending to its end walls, transverse partitions extending between said side wall and the longitudinal partition and defining compartments, one of said transverse partitions being provided with a lateral ledge at its upper end and having its upper end below the'plane of the upper edges of the walls of the box and the longitudinal partition, a liquidcontainer in one of said compartments, and a clip in another of said compartments open at its upper side and adapted to be closed by the'cover of the box when said cover is in place whereby a writing implement may be secured with a portion of its'length engaged in the clip and its end resting on said lateral ledge.
V In testimony whereof I atfix my signature.
