Description

f Y E. L. BRADLEY.
- Hats.
N0,149,43| PatenredAprnmaM.
EDGAR L. BRADLEY, OF JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO FISHER 85 CO., OENEVYORK CITY.
IMPRQVEVIENT IN HATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,431, dated April, 1874; application filed March 3, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDG-iin L. BRADLEY, of Jersey City, in the county of Hudson and State of N ew Jersey, have invented an Iniprovenient in Hats and Gaps, of which the following is a speciiieation:
My invention relates to an improvement whereby provision is inade i'or the display,
successively, of the naine of the hatn1anufacturer, the jobber, the retailer, and the final purchaser or owner of the hat; and it consists in a pocket having an opening at one side or end for the insertion and withdrawal of a card, and an opening in the face to allow the card to be read.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a view of the inside of the hatlining. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section through the pocket.
The pocket may be applied to linings made of either soft or stiff material7 for either silk or felt hats, with equal facility, and may be located in any suitable part of the lining.
The drawing represents a soft hat-lining, A, with the pocket B located in the tip. The pocket is open at one end, as shown in Fig. 2, to allow of the ready insertion or withdrawal of a card, C, but may be open on either side, or top or bottoni, for the saine purpose, and has an opening, D, of oblong, oval, or other suitable forni, in the face, to allow the supe-rscription on the card to be read.
By means of this pocket different cards may be readily inserted and'withdrawn, at pleasure. The hat-manufacturer may iirst insert his business-card or advertisement; then the jobber or middle-man may do the same; then the retail dealer; and, finally, the purchaser or owner of the hat may insert a card bearing his naine or other distinguishing mark or evi dence of ownership.
I ani aware that boxes having a hinged cover have been formed upon the interior ot' hats and caps, to serve as a receptacle for brushes, combs, &c. 5 such, therefore, is disclaiined, as it is not my invention, as no provision is made for the horizontal insertion of a card, and no opening present for displaying such card.
That I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The pocket B, having` au opening in its side or edge for the horizontal insertion of a card, and an opening in its face for displaying such i card, said pocket being connected with the tip of a hat-lining, substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
