AUGUSTUS O. STOESSIGER, OF LYONS, IOWA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO WILLIAM DOLAN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN CANS FOR OIL, &c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 149,420, dated April 7, 1874; application filed March 4, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it-known that I, AUGUSTUS 0. Shoes- SIGER, of Lyons, in the county of Clinton and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Oil or Fluid Cans; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a cross-section. Fig. 2 is a perspective view.
My invention relates to oil or fluid cans; and consists of a cork or other elastic stopple combined with a screw-cap and a cone-top, forming a chamber on the top of the can, and provided with a spout and vent-hole, as hereinafter more fully described.
A is a stopple, made of cork or rubber or any elastic material, and is securely fastened, by a rivet or screw, G, within and to the screwcap, and is made to neatlyfit the neck of the cone-top to prevent the fluid from escaping. B is a vent-hole in the side of the cone-top to admit air into the chamber H. O is a screwcap, made to screw onto the neck of the conetop. 0 is the cone-top, soldered on the top of the can E, forming the chamber H, and is provided with a spout, D. F is an aperture through the top of the can E.
When the cap 0 is screwed down, the stopple A fits tightly over the aperture F, closing the can air-tight. By turning the cap back, the stopple is raised, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, allowing the fluid to flow out through aperture F and spout D, while air is admitted through the vent B.
To fill the can, the cap and stopple are removed.
WVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The combination of an elastic stopple, A,'
screw-cap O, cone-top O, vent B, spout D, can E, aperture F, and chamber H, substantially as and for the purposes described.
