State of New Y Ork have invented an Improvement in Brassieres, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a brassiere and more particularly to that type of brassiere in which there are front and back members each provided with extensions adapted to overlie each other at the axillar parts of the body and to be adjustably connected to secure the garment in position. The invention furthermore relates to the form of brassiere shown and described in my co pending application, Serial No. 527,070, 1iled January 5, 1922 for a similar invention in which the under arm sections of the garment are so constructed and adapted to be connected to the underlying adjacent parts as to prevent the garment from working up on the body and becoming rumpled irrespective of the position of the body of the wearer. The object of my present inven tion is the provision of a garment of this type having means for supporting and reducing the diaphragm of the body, and in carrying out the invention the front member of the brassiere is fitted with a rein-' forcing member adapted to overlie the diaphragm and to be connected adjustably to the extensions or extremities of the back member not only to adjust the garment to position. but to enable the wearer to apply different degrees of tension to the diaphragm in supporting and maintaining the same in place, as will be hereinafter more particularly described. As will be seen by reference to the drawing, in the construction of my improved brassiere I employ a front member 10, a back member 11, and suitable shoulder straps 12 and 13 by which these members are connected. The front member is made with extensions 14: and 15, and the extension 14 provided with a strap 16 and the extension 15 with a strap 17, these straps being adapted to be passed around the waist of the wearer in the customary manner and to be tied in the front in adjusting the front member to position. 011 One side the front member is fitted with a reinforcing strap 18 in which there is a series of eyelets 19, and similarly on the other side the front member is provided with a reinforcing strap 1 20 in which there is a similar series of eyelets 21. The back member 11 is constructed with an extension 22, the upper edge of which, as indicated at 23, forms a continuation of the upper edge of the back member and is so shaped as to conform with the under arm portion of the body. Similarly at the other side the back member 11 is constructed with an extension 24, the upper edge 25 of which also forms a continuation of the upper edge of the back member and is 7 so shaped as to conform to the under arm section of the wearer. At the upper end of the extension 22 there is a hook 26 adapted to engage any one of the eyelets 19, while similarly at the upper end of the extension 24 there is a hook 27 adapted to engage with either of the eyelets 21. At the lower end the extension 22 is provided with a hook- 28, and similarly at the lower end of the-extension 24 there is a hook 29.

It is further preferably connected. tothe front member of the garment, and as illustrated is attached thereto only alonga portion of the upper edge so that the lower and end portions of the reinforcing-memher or pad. are entirely free of'the front, member of the brassiere. it the ends of; this reinforcing member there are series of eyelets indicated respectively at 31 and 32, and as indicated the lower edge of the reinforcing member 30 preferably conforms to the adjacent lower edge of the front member 10, but lies slightly above the same.

While I have illustrated the pad member 30 as secured along a part of its upper edge to the central portion of the front member, it will be understood that it may be otherwise secured thereto, or if desirable need not be permanently connected thereto at all.

In the use of this garment the adjustment and connection of the lower ends of the extensions of the back member are made by causing the hooks 28 and 29 to engage respectively with either of the eyelets 31 and 32 of the reinforcing member or pad 30 which, as will be understood, not only adju'sts and connects the parts in position, but may also be utilized to vary the tension applied to the diaphragm of the wearer and to thus support mold and maintain the same in the desired place.

I claim as my invention:

1. A brassiere comprising a front member having end portions adapted to extend around the waist of the wearer, a back member having portions adapted to extend around the waist of the wearer, a reinforcing member overlying the central portion of the front member, and means for adjust ably connecting the ends of the back member to the said reinforcing member.

2. A bras'siere comprising a front member having extensions adapted to overlie the axillary parts of the body of the wearer, a back member having extensions adapted to overlie the extensions of the front member, a reinforcing member overlying the central portion of the front member, and means for adjusta-bly connecting the extensions of the back member to the said reinforcing memher.

8. A brassiere comprising a front member having extensions adapted to overlie the axillary parts of the body of the wearer, a back member having extensions adapted to overlie the extensions of the front member, a pad overlying the central portion of the front member, and means for adjustably connecting the extensions of the back member to the said pad.

4. A brassiere comprising a front member having extensions adapted to overlie the axillary parts of the body of the wearer, a back member having extensions adapted to overlie the extensions of the front member, a triangularly shaped pad connected along a portion of its upper edge to the central portion of the front member, with the lower portions of the said p ad free from the front member, and means for adjustably connecting the lower ends of the extensions of the back member to the said pad.

5. A brassiere comprising a front member having extensions adapted to overlie the axillar parts of the body, a back member hlaving extensions adapted to overlie the extensions of the front member and at their upper ends to conform to the under arm portion of the wearer, means for connecting the upper ends of the extensions of the back member to the adjacent underlying portions of the front member, a reinforcing member connected centrally to the front member, and means for adjustably connecting the lower ends of the extensions of the back member to the said reinforcing memher.

6. A brassiere comprising a front member having extensions adapted to overlie the axillar parts of the body, a back member having extensions adapted to overlie the extensions of the front member and at their upper ends to conform to the under arm portion of the wearer, means for connecting the upper ends of the extensions of the back member to the adjacent underlying portions of the front member, a pad of triangular configuration connected along a portion of its upper edge to the central portion of the front member, with the lower portion of the pad free from the front memher and overlying the same, and means for adjustably connecting the lower ends of the extensions of the back member to the end portions of the said pad.

7. A brassiere comprising a front member having portions adapted to extend around the waist of the wearer, a back member having portions adapted to overlie those portions of the front member which extend around the waist of the wearer, a reinforcing member overlying the central portion of the front member, and means for connecting the ends of the back member to the said reinforcing member.

8. A brassiere comprising a front member having extensions adapted to overlie the axillary parts of the body of the welarer, a back member having extensions adapted to overlie the said extensions of the front memher, a reinforcing member at the lower central portion of the front member, and means for connecting the extensions of the back member to the reinforcing member in spaced positions on either side of the central line of the said reinforcing member.
