To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, LAWRENCE M. FRED- Enron, a citizen of the United States, residing` at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and State of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in llVa-ll Boxes, of which the following is a specification. i
My invention relates to improvements in wall boxes and has for the primary object thereof, the provision of such a device that may be incorporated into the building wall during the construction thereof for providing` a fresh air inlet into-the building, the box being of such a lnature andconstruction as to be readily adapted to walls of different thicknesses. f
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of such ay wall box, wherein the flow of air into the building through the box may be regulated by a sliding damper plate, my invention ,being further characterized by its simplicity of construction, and easy of installation.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawing forming part of this application` like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure l is a front eleva-tional view of a wall box constructed in accordance with my invention; and being shown. as incorporated within the building wall and a portion thereof being fragmentarily shown.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the wall box, a portion of the sliding damper plate beingbroken awa-y for more clearly disclosing the interior of the boX.
Figure 3 is a vertical. transverse cross sectional view upon the broken line of Figure l.

Viith specific reference to the drawings, my device constitutes the provision of a substantially elongated and rectangular frame 5, which is adapted to be set directly into the building wall A during the construction thereof. It is desirable that 'the `width of this frame be less than the thickness of the wall, the same being formed at its front end and upon its four sides thereof,rv
with a iange 6, which flange is adapted for close contact with the outer surface of said wall A. Connected to the' inner `end of the frame 5,`through the instrumentality of a desirable number of metallic strips 7 is a substantially rectangular shaped frame 8, of l. shape in cross section, and adapted to be embedded within theusual plaster surface B, upon the interior of the wallA. These metallic strip members T may be formed withfa plurality of openings `thefrein for receiving the fastening means f), whereby the frames 5 and S may be adjusted to compensate for different thickness of wall construction.
"Within the front end of the frame 5, there is inserted what may be termed a louver frame l0, also of open rectangular consti-nothin and provided with a renewable inner wall of screening ll. This louver frame 10 is formed with a plurality of. longitudinally,extending spaced louver or bevel plates l2, the same being inclined upwardly towards their inner ends as per Figure 3. rThe front end of the lonver frame l0 is flanged as at 13, whereby the. same may be rigidly secured within the tirst mentioned frame 5 through the instrumentalityv of any desirable design of lgrill plate ll. The louver frame l0 is further characterized by the formation of a longitudinally extending' skirt portion l5 at .its upper end for preventing the direct passage of air through the upper portion of the frame so that all of the air passing through said frame will be directed upwardly therein so that dust and grit will be deposited on the louver plate 12 and subsequently roll down the inclined faces of said'plates and outwardly through the grid.
Secured to the inner wall frame 8 as at 16 is a substantially U shape sliding damper guide 17, "this guide being formed with a pair of spacedU shaped plates or strips, as more clearly shown iniFigures 3 and 4. Adapted for free vertical. sliding movement within the frame 17 is a damper plate 18, to the lower opposite ends of which are connected chains or other flexible members 19. The upper ends of these chains are secured to a chain section 20, this last mentioned lli chain section adapted for cooperation with a T shaped opening' 2l within a wall bracket 22 'for maintaining` the said damper plate in adjusted positions. It is of course understood that the bracket 22 is rigidly Secured to the inner surface of the wall A and in a position above the said wall box.
In view of the above description, it is believed by me that the advantages and o-peration of a wall box constructed in conformity with my invention will be readily appreciated by those skilled in the arty and although I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment ot my invention, it is nevertheless to be understood 'that minor changes may be made therein, without departing Jfrom the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1- l. In a wall box of the class-described, a front and rear frame member, adjustable connections between said -irame members7 a louver frame removably positioned Vwithin v said-front fra-me and a grill plate removably positioned upon the outer side of `said front frame and adapted for maintaining said louver frame in position therein.
2. In a wall box of the class described, a front and rear frame member, adjustable connections between said frame membersy a louver frame removably positioned within said front frame, a grill plate removably positioned upon the outer side of said front frame and adapted for maintaining said louver frame in position therein, and a sliding damper upon said inner frame.
3. In a wall box ot' the class described, a front and rear frame member, adjustable connections between said frame members, a louver frame removably positioned within said front frame, a grill plate removably positioned upon the outer side of said front frame and adapted for n'iaintaining said louver frame in. position the-rein, a sliding damper upon said inner frame, and means for maintaining said sliding damper in adjusted positions.
