PROCESS OF EVAPORATING ZINC CHLORIDE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUDWIG ROSENSTEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented anew and useful Process of Evaporating Zinc Chloride, of which the following is a specification, in such-full and clear terms as will enable those skilled in the art to construct and use the same.
This invention relates to a method of evaporating zinc chloride solutions and its object is to enable the zinc chloride solutions to he evaporated in ordinary iron containers without causing the zinc chloride to become contaminated with iron, or corroding the vessel and thereby do away with the expensive containers ordinarily used for the evaporation of zinc chloride solutions.
It will be understood by those skilled in the art that zinc chloride solutions usually contain other salts of zinc which as the solution is evaporating tend to act upon the iron and destroy the container necessitating the use of containers which are not subject to this action and which are very expensive.
Experiment has shown that zinc chloride solutions can be evaporated in an iron container provided a quantity of metallic zinc is added to the solution, and allowed to make electrical contact with the iron of the container.

The numeral 1 indicates the brick work support or top. 2 the pot which may be of any desired form, and 3 granular particles of zinc thrown into the solution to be evaporated.
In practice the process is carried out by 40 placing the zinc chloride solution in the iron vessel and throwing a supply of zinc into the solution from time to time. Where the process is substantially continuously carried out the zinc granulars gradually disappear going into the solution while at the same time it protects the iron pot from destruction. I
What I claim is- 1. A process of evaporating zinc chloride in iron pots which comprises maintaining a solution of zinc chloride ,at the temperature of evaporation, and maintaining a supply of metallic zinc in the solution and in electrical contact with the iron during the time of 5 treatment.
