DENTAL IMPRESSIOII TRAY.
Application filed August15, 1923 Serial No. 657,621.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Lax C. ARNETT, a citizen of the UnitedSta-tes, and a resident of Clinton, in the county ofVermilion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Dental Impression Tray, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. r I
The present invention relatestonewand useful improvements in dental appliances, and. it pertains more particularly to a tray especially adapted for taking impressions of1persons bite's;--
t is one of the objects of the invention to provide a, dentaltray which -is capable of adjustment both. laterally and longitudinally i-norder that the tray may be adapted to mouths of varioussizes.
It is, a further-object of the, invention to construct a tray in such a manner that it is adjustable to various forms as well as sizes, thus providing a tray which will conform to mouths of various shapes.
* With the above and other. objects in view, reference is-had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a rearplan view of a tray constructed in accordance withthe presentinvention and particularly adapted for. use in taking the impressionof the upper set of teeth in a persons mouth;
Fig. 2 isa front plan view thereof,
Fig. '3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 3.-3 of Fig.2;
Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 4.4= of Fig. 2;
Fig. 5 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a view in rear elevation of a tray constructed in accordance with the present invention and especially adapted for use in taking the impression of the lower set of teeth of a persons mouth;
fFig. 7 is a View in front elevation there- 0 Fig. 8 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 8-8 of Fig. 7
Fig. 9 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 9-9 of Fig. 7.
Referring again to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive, the tray comprises two members 10, each of which is formed on its outer edge with a channel 11 having an upstanding outer flange 12. The inner flange 13 of the channel is extended as at 14 and is adapted to overlie the corresponding portion of the other member 10, as shown at 15. Each of these members 10 is provided with a han die 16, and eachhandle 16 is perforated at its freeenchas at 17,and is secured to its re.-
21. This shaft 21 is provided with a knurled operating member 22, by means ofwhich the shaft is rotated in the studs 19. Mounted in the studs 20, there is, a shaft 23 which rivets 18, or the like.
has screw-threaded engagement. with the studs 20 and is provided with a'knurled operating member 2/1, by'means of Which the shaft 23 is rotated.- j f Secured toone of the,members 10,-, as at 25, *isan :arcuate bar ,26 having sliding movement inffavguide 27 carried by, the opposite member 10. Secured to the member lO which carries the guide 27, as at28, is an .arcuate bar 29 having sliding movement in-a ber .10.
'Each, of the members lO carries a stud 31, and such stud has a screw-threaded head 32by 'meansof which each stud is clamped guide 30, carried by the, opposite 'memto its respective member. Carried by each of the members '10 and projecting from the forward end thereof, there is a member 33, and each of said members is provided with an arcuate slot 34, adapted to receive the studs 31 heretofore mentioned, said studs forming the means' of securement. of said members 33 intheir adjusted relation with relation to their respective members 10.
Referring to the tray shownin Figs. 6.
to 9, which is adapted for use in taking the impression of the lower set of teeth, it will be noted that said tray comprises two members 40, having overlapping ends, designated by the numeral 11. Each of the members 40 is channel-shaped in cross-sectional form, having side walls 42. Each of the members 10 has depending studs 43, and having screw-threaded engagement with said studs 43 there is a threaded shaft 4 1 having a knurled operating member 45. Each of these members 40 also has internally screw-threaded studs 16, and having threaded engagement therewith is a screwthreaded shaft 47 having a knurled operated member 48. Carried by one of the members 40 and secured thereto, as at 4:9,
there is an arcuate member 50, said member sliding through a guide 51 carried by the other of the members 40. Secured to each of the members 40, as at 52, are two overlapping arcuate members 53, and said members have overlapping ends retained in overlapped position by strap 54, or the like. Each of the members 40 is provided with a handle 55, and said handle members are secured to their respective members 40 by rivets 56, or the like, the handles of which are provided with an opening 57 in their free end.
Each of the members 40 carries a stud 58, and each of such studs 58 has a screwthreaded head member 59. The studs 58 serve to secure end members 60 on to the channels, said end members having their outer ends closed as at 61. Each of these members 60 is provided with a slot 62- adapted to receive its respective stud 58 to provide for securing the end members in position on their respective members 40. The members 60 have their ends closed as shown at 63.
The device functions in the following manner:
A tray is placed within the mouth and is adjusted by means of its threaded shafts until the proper form and size is obtained, it being understood that the trays carry suitable impression material commonly used for this purpose. After the tray has been properly adjusted, the bite is taken and the tray removed from the mouth, the
handles serving this purpose.
From the foregoing it is apparent that the present invention provides a new and improved dental tray which may be adjusted to suit various shapes or forms of mouths, as well as various sizes of mouths, thus eliminating the necessity of carrying a large number of trays in order to find one suitable for each particular patient.
What is claimed is:
l. A dental tray comprising two substan- "ence of the means ing said curved members and serving to adjust and maintain said members in adjust-ed relation, a handle secured to each of said members, and members carried by each of said curved members and slidably mounted on the end thereof in a direction parallel with the longitudinal axis of each of said curved members. v
3. A dental impression tray comprising a plurality of curved members having overlapping relation, internally threaded studs carried by each of said members and arranged in pairs, screw-threaded shafts engageable in said internally threaded studs and serving as means for adjusting the two members relatively to each other, and guide members carried by said curved members for'guiding the same in their movement relative to one another.
4. A dental impression tray comprising a pair of members having overlapping engagement, means for moving said members toward and away from each other, an end member carried by each of said last-mentioned members, a guide arm pivotally connected to each ofsaid members, said guide arms overlapping each other, a strap surrounding said guide arms to maintain them in overlapped relation, and a guidearm carried by one of the members and operating through a guide member in the other member to guide the movement of themembers relative to each other underthe influwhichv moves them;
