Application an April 19, 1922., serial No.'555,613.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH STRNISTE,
citizen of the United States, residing at Among the objects of'the invention is to.
provide a toy of this class which is simple in design, easy and inexpensive to construct, and one which is practically indestructible owing to the characterof the material of which it is made.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and accompanying drawings which illustrate the preferred embodiment of the invention and in which;- i
Fig. l is a plan view of the device; I Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of Fig. 1 and Fig. 2; I
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of a portion of the device showing method of securing the seat supports to the base.
Fig. 5 is a cross section taken on the line 55 of Fig. 4; andv Fig. 6 is a front elevation of a portion of the front bracket showing the foot rests. Referring to the drawings, 1, 1 represents parallel rockers spaced apart whose ends are bent inwardly towards and joined to each other forming end portions 2, 2 continuous with the rockers 1, 1. The portions v.2, 2 are bent preferably so that they are circular in form as shown in Fig. 1 and form curved ends for the rockers 1, 1. The curved end portions 2, 2 are also formed so asto lie in substantially the same curved plane which passes lengthwise through the rockers 1, 1 as shown in Fig. 2, or in other words the rocking frame, consisting of the rockers 1, 1 and end portions 2, 2 has a curved rocking tread from end to end. This rocking frame is preferably constructed of tubing and may be madein' one or more pieces joined together in any suitable manner such as by a brazed or welded joint. Forming in Rocking the rocking frame in this manner saves considerable material without shortening the rocking limits and eliminates corners'and sharp points which are usual on devices of this character. r i v A saddle seat 3 shaped in conformity with the well-known pedi-car seat having a narrowed front'portion and widened rear portion is supported upon the rockers 1, 1 by a front bracket 4 and-rear bracket 5, secured to the under side of the seat in any suitable manner and""preferably made of strap iron. In the preferred embodiment the front bracket 4 is provided with arms 12, 12* extending vertically downwardly from the'sides of the front end of seat 3 and then horizontally outwardly to the rockers 1, 1. The ends of the-arms12, 12 are bent at right angles to their horizontal portions as shown in Fig. 6, to connect with the rockers 1, 1 in a manner to be presently described. The rear bracket 5 is similar in construction having arms 13, 13 inclining downwardly and rearwardly from the sides of the rear end of seat '3 and connected to to the rockers 1, 1' by. means of slots -7 provided in the upper side of the tubular rockers. These ends are-inserted in the slots 7 and are then welded or brazed to thetubing asshown in'Fig. 4 and 5 and are thereby firmly anchored to'same.
The construction of the front bracket 4 with its narrow upper portion supporting the front end of the seat and its wider lower portion formed by the horizontally outwardly extending arms connected to the rockers, is such that the horizontally extending portions of the arms 12, 12 form foot rests for the child. If the childs legs are too short to reach these arms, additional foot rests 10, 10 may be provided on the downwardly extendingportion of the arms as shown in Fig. 6. These foot rests 10, 10 are adjustably secured to the arms 12, 12 in any suitable manner, as by, a series, of holes 11, 11; through which the threaded ends'of the foot rests extend for engagement with I a nut.
A rigid posti8 carrying a cross p'iece{9,1
adjacent thefront end of the saddleiseat is preferably mounted on the latter and. serves, as a handle bar within convenient reach of' a child sitting on the seat. 1 he,.-.preferred, form shown, the post 8 has a reduced lower end 14: extending through the. front endof the .saddle seat 3 and the. bracket 4:,,. and screw-threaded to receive a nut 15 whereby all of said parts are .securely clamped together.
It will be observed that a childistoyhas been designed which is novel in its construction and f which combines features ,that
arouse unusual interest in the ohildJ- Its design, permits. of very rigid. construction, and great durability. I v Y What I claim is :-v
j 1; A rockingpedi carcomprisingrin conibination a flatsaddle seat, a-rigid handle 5' bar mounted adj ace nt the forward endtherea curved rocking tread from end to end,
brackets at the front and rear-ends, of said saddle seat for supporting same from said .rocking'frame, and a horizontal brace intermediate said. front and rear brackets. for connecting said rockers. j
3'. A rocking pedi-car comprising in; combination, a rocking frame havingparallel rockers, a bracket mounted on one end .of said frame and having a narrow upper, portion and a wider lower portion, and horizon tally offset portions connecting first two'said portions to serve as foot. .;rests, second bracket mounted on the other end of i said frame, a seat havinga narrow;.port1oii;supportedupon said narrow portion ofgs'aid first brac nd a. wide 'por ifln. supported upon said other bracket, and a rigid handle and seasecure o h r In, testimony whereof I bar mounted in said narrow portion of said seat. j I

A rocking pedi-car comprising, in combination, a rocking frame having parallel rockers, bracket mounted on one end of said frame and having anarrow upper portron anoLa wider lower portlon and hor1zon tally offset portions connecting first two said portions, a second ,bracket mounted on the other end of said frame, a seat having a narrow portion supported upon said narrow portion of said front bracket, and a wide portion supported upon said other bracket, a rigid handle barmounted in said narrow portion of. said seat, and adjustable foot rests on said first bracket.
-;5. A rocking pedi-car comprising in combination a Hat saddle seat, a rigid handle bar mounted adjacent the forward end of said saddle seat, a rocking frame comprising parallel tubular rockers curvedly converging together at the front and; rear ends. thereof,
said rocking frame havinga curved rocking tread from end to end,,f ront and-rear brackets for supporting said saddle seatfrom said frame, said front bracket formed of strap metal bent into. a narrow upper portion for attachment to the forward end of said saddle seat, and wider lower portion having ends anchored in said tubular rockers, said rear bracket formed of strap metal with its lower ends anchored in said tubular rockers and convergingupwardly for attachment to said saddle seat andan intermediate horizontal brace connecting said tubular rockers.
6. A rocking pedi-car comprising in-com bination, a rocking frame havingparallel rockers,-a bracket mounted on one end of said frame and having a narrow upper port onand a wider lower portion .andhor1zontally oifset portions connecting just two said portions to serve as foot rests, a second bracket mounted on the other end of said frame, a seat having a-narro-w portion supported uponthesaid narrow portion of said first bracket and a wide portion-sup- .ported upon said other bracket and a rigid handle bar mounted in saidnarrow portion of said seat comprising a vertical post extendinguthroughsaid. seat and upper portion .of said first named bracket and. provided with means. for clamping said bracket have afliXed' my s gnature.
