` 4 claims. (c1. 15s-*69) This invention relates to a rocking toy of rocking horse type.

An object of this invention is to provide a toy of rocking horse type which is strong and simple in construction, dependable in operation and not expensive to manufacture.

Another object of this invention is to provide a rocking horse type toy which can be caused by the user to move across the oor, either in a forward or rearward direction. l

Another object is to provide a rocking horse type toy which has good stability on the and can not be easily upset and whichit liable to injure the user.

Other objects of this invention are to provide a rocking toy in which the rocker structure is in the Aformof one continuous loop of metal tubing which is of oval or 1n plan, has

supporting member of approximately inverted trough shape rigidly secured to the end portions thereof so that it extends like an arch above said rocker from end to end thereof and provides a support for a longitudinally extending seat member.

Other objects of this invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.

In the drawings Figure 1 is a top plan view of a rocking horse constructed in accordance with this invention.

Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.

Fig. 3 is a front elevation of said rocking horse.

Like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views.

While this toy is herein referred to as a rocking horse it will be understood that the same is to be regarded as al rocking toy which is not necessarily made to simulate a horse.

This rocking horse comprises a rocker member 5 preferably formed of a single piece of metal tubing or pipe bent into an oval or oblong shape to provide a loop of substantially greater length than width and preferably of a length equal to about twice its width. This oval loop which forms the rocker member comprises two side portions preferably having some curvature away from each other and connected by two integral rounded end portions. Preferably the two end portions of the piece of tubing from which the rocker member is formed come together at one end of the oval shaped Yloop and are rigidly secured together at this location, as by a weld 6. From end to en d this rockerv member` is curved or bent concavo-convexly into the shape of a rocker, as best shown in Fig. 2. In plan this rocker mernber is of oval or oblong shape while in side elevation it is rocker shape.

A combined truss member and seat support of approximately inverted trough shape comprising a straight flat upper medial portion 'I and two divergent outer or terminal portions 8 is carried by the rockerr member 5. Preferably the truss member and seat support 1, 8 is made of a hat metal bar and is positioned in the medial plane of the rocker member and extends above said rocker member like an arch. The lower ends of the two outer portions 8 of this truss member and seat support rest upon the respective front and rear curved end portions of the rocker member 5 and are welded or otherwise xedly secured to said rocker member. A longitudinally extending medially disposed seat board 9 rests upon and is secured to the nat portion 1 of the truss member and seat support as by screws I0. Preferably the seat board 9 has a widened rear end portion I I which may be 0f circular shape.

An upright head or post member I2 is medially secured to the forward end portion of the seat board 9 and a transverse hand hold member I3 is secured to said upright member I2. If desired the upright member I2 can be painted or printed or stenciled on both sides to simulate the head of a horse. Obviously this decoration can be varied or omitted.

Screws I4, shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2, can be used to secure this upright support to the seat board 9. Preferably the screws I 4 are inserted before the seat board 9 is secured to the truss member 1, 8.

A foot rest member I5 is secured, as by bolts I6, to the inclined truss member and seat support portion 8 at the front end of the rocking horse. Preferably additional holes or sets of holes I 'I are provided in the part 8 so that the foot rest member I5 can be adjusted.

This toy is adapted to be used like an ordinary rocking hose. It has good stability and is not easily tipped over either sidewise or forwardly or rearwardly. When used in the mannerl comhorses a child using the same will quickly learn how to cause this rocking horse to move either in a forwardV or rearward direction as it is rocked. The rocking element 5, being made of metal pipe or tubing, such as steel tubing, isv smooth and will glide easily *tially greater length than over floors, carpets, rugs and the like without damaging the same. The oval shape of the one piece rocker member 5 and the provision of the rounded ends on the same seem to make the horse move more easily and smoothly in longitudinal directions than will a rocking horse with ordinary conventional rockers. Also the rounded end portions of the rocker member 5 are less liable to damage furniture and woodwork than are the ends of conventional rockers of toys of this type.

Preferably the seat board 9 and upright support l2 are made of fairly such as spruce, which is highly resistant to splitting. Also preferably all parts of the toy with which a child is liable to come into contact are rounded and shaped so thatthey. are not liable to hurt or injure the child.

1. 2. In a rocking horse a rocker member embodying an oval shaped metal loop of a length I equal to substantially twice its width and having spaced apart side portions connected by rounded end portions and having a concavoconvex curvature from end to end thereof; a combined truss member and seat support of inverted trough shape having two end portions xedly secured tothe rounded end portions of said rocker member and extending like an arch i above said' rocker member from end to end thereof; and seat means carried by said truss member and seat support.

In a rocking horse a rocker member embodying an oval shaped metal loop of substantially greater length than width having spaced apart side portions connected by rounded end portions and having a rocker shaped curvature from end to end thereof; a combined truss member and seat support of inverted trough shape having a substantially straight medial portion and two downwardly and outwardly inclined divergent outer portions, the two ends of said divergent outer portion being fxedly secured to the respective rounded end portions of said rocker member, whereby said truss member and seat support extends like an arch above said rocker member from end to end of said rocker member in the medial plane of said rocker member; and seat means carried by the substantially straight medial portion of said truss member and seat support.

4. In a rocking horse a rocker member embodying an oval shaped metal loop of substantially greater length than width having spaced apart side portions connected by rounded end portions and having a rocker shaped curvature from end to end thereof; a combined truss mem ber and seat support of inverted trough shape having two end portions Xedly secured to the rounded end portions of said rocker member and extending like an arch above said rocker member from end to end thereof medially of said rocker member; seat means carried by said truss rigid. upright member provided on the front end portion of -said seat means; xed hand hold means extending crosswise of said. upright member; and adjustable foot rest means rigidly secured transversely of the iront portion of said truss member and seat support forwardly of said upright member.
