c. w. FORD I COMBI NED LAMP PEDESTAL AND CIGAR STAND Filed Nov. 21 1922 ATTORNEY.
Patented Apr. 29, 1924.
PATENT crates.
CLINTON W. FORD, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED LAMP PEDESTAL AND CIGAR STAND.
Application filed. November 21, 1922. Serial No. 602,482.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, CLINTON W. FORD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Lamp Pedestals and Cigar Stands, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to combination lamp pedestals and cigar stands, wherein the said pedestal is so constructed as to have a cigar stand associatedtherewith, and further, wherein the device may be readily knocked down to be stored away in a compact manner.
A further object of the invention resides in the provision of such a device that will answer all of the purposes of a cigar stand and at the same time may be readily employed as a lamp pedestal and such a COIH- bination that is comparatively inexpensive of manufacture, simple of construction and highly useful of purpose.
With these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combina tion, and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustratedin the accompanying drawing, and pointed out in the appended claim;
In the drawing forming a part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1is an elevational view of a device constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Figure 2-is an enlarged fragmentary cross sectional view of a portion of the device. 7
With particular reference to the drawing, my device comprises a section post in cluding a relatively long lower section 1, and a short top section 2. These sections are normally in vertical alinement with each other and the lower end of the bottom section 1, has a supporting base 3 formed thereon. The upper end of this lower section 1 has the vertically projecting annular stud 4 formed thereon adapted for engagement within a central opening 5 in the bottom wall of an annular shaped receptacle 6. As more clearly shown in Figure 2, the
inner surface of the side walls of this receptacle 6 is plane for allowing the cigars or cigarettes to lie flatly therein.
The lower end of the upper post section 2 is provided with a central pendent an 'nular stud 7 for engagementwith a central opening of an annular shaped cover plate 8. This cover 8 is pivotally secured to the receptacle 6 by a vertical rod 9 extending through alined bores within the receptacle and cover for allowing the cover to be swung laterally off the receptacle. This rod 9 is headed at its upper end as at 10, and is reduced and screw threaded at its lower projecting end as at 11, adapted for screw threaded engagement over the reduced screw threaded end 11 of the rod is a thumb 'nut' 12; The upper surface of the cover plate 8 has 'an annular channel 13 formed therein, for receiving the ashes of cigars or cigarettes, and it will be readily understood that when it is desired to extract the cigars or cigarettes from the receptacle 6, the cover plate 8 together with the upper section 2 of the lamp pedestal may be swung off of the receptacle.
The upper end of the top section 2 carries the usual lamp sockets 14 together with a lamp shade 15. If desired, a clock casing 16 may be supported within the top section 2, a portion of this section being hollowed out as more clearly shown in Figures 1 and 2, for allowing the pendulum 16 of the clock 16 to have a free swinging movement therein.
While I have herein shown and described 1 the preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is In combination with a vertically arranged base, a stud carried by the upper end thereof, a receptacle having a central opening in its bottom and receiving the stud. a cover arranged on the receptacle, a vertical pin passing loosely through the cover and receptacle to pivotally connect the same 'together, and a lamp base supported centrally on the cover.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CLINTON FORD.
