rIhis invention relates to a smokers stand. I am aware that heretofore stands for the use of smokers have been constructed in various manners to include a rest or support vfor a cigar, cigarette, or a pipe, and also a match box rack or supportand an ash tray. In some instances the ash tray includes a receptacle or a dish made of glass or other similar material but the receptacle is fixed to the other portions of the stand and consequently is-not separably removable therefrom for the purpose of emptying the ashes and otherwise cleaning the tray. Gbviously in such structures in cleaning the ash tray receptacle it is necessary to handle the entire standand this often times is cumbersome, making the task more or less difficult. The object of my present invention is to provide a stand for smokers and to con-4 struct the same in such a manner that the parts are readily assembled for use and the ash tray or trays separable removable for theA purpose of facilitating the cleaning thereof, as will be hereinafter more particularly described.

By reference to the drawing it will be seen that in carrying out the invention the smokers stand made in accordance therewith includes a base 10 which in suitably spaced positions may be provided with feet 11. The stand also includes an upright or shank member 12 having at its lower end a reduced portion 13 adapted to pass through an opening` provided therefor in the boss 14 at the underside of the base so that the upright or shank may be secured to the base by means of a nut 15 or otherwise.

The upper end of the shank 12 is also provided with a stein of reduced cross-section, as indicated at 16, and which is provided with a screw thread. Fitted to the upper end of the shank there is a head 17. In the head 17 there is a hole or opening 18 through which the reduced screw threaded stem 16 is adapted to pass in order that the head may rest upon the shoulder at the upper en-d of the shank. 'Ilie head is secured in position on the shank by a cap 19 provided with a tapped socket to be turned down on the screw threaded end 16 to secure the parts together.` As illustrated, the cap 19 may include a ring 2O that maybe utilized as a handle.

rIhe head 17 is made to include an extension 21 provided with a match box holder 22. In a position oppositely disposed to the extension 21 the head'l' is formed to include a pipe or cigar holder, as indicated at 23. v`Associated with the head 17 I also employ

24 and 25 each of which, as illustrated, may be forni-ed to include a cigar or cigarette rest 26 and 27.

24 and 25 are detachably and interchangeably connected to the head 17, and as the construction of both is similar it will be described merely in connection with the ash tray 25. To this end the head 17 is provided with a recess 28 and spaced supports 29 and 'i i 30, which are adjacent the outer portion of the head in which'the recess is placed, the

upper face of these supports being appreciably below the top surface of the head. In

a suitable position the tray 25 is provided with an angular lug 31. Beneath this lug 31 there is a rib 32. The lug 31 is so constructed that distant from its outer face there are

shoulders

33 and 34 while the rib 32.' extends beyond the outer face of the lug 31 to provide a lip 35. These parts are so constructed that the width of the lug 31 is substantially the same as the width of the recess 28,'while the depth of the recess is substantially equal tothe distance be tween the outer face of the lug 31 and the

shoulders

33 and 34. In placing the tray in position, therefore, the lug 31 is set in the recess 28 so that the rib depending from the angular lug lies between the

supports

29 and 30 and the upper faces of these supports contact with the inner surface of the lug, while the

shoulders

33 and 34 abut against the outer edge of the head 17, and the lip 35 projects beneath the vadjacent portion of the head17 which,if necessary, may be cut away toreceive the saine. It will now be understood that the tray 25 may be readily connected and disconnected to and from the head 17 and is normally supported in position by the parts hereinbefore described. In removing the tray or in placing the same in position it is necessary to only tilt the same slightly relatively to the head whereby it may be put in place and as easily removed from the head for the purposes of cleaning it independently of the other parts of the stand or otherwise. It

Will also be understood that the parts of the stand may be readily disconnected for the purposes of packing and shipping ori-otherwise and that they may be as readily assembled to their positions for use.

I claim as my invention:

l. In combination With a support memberA tained in position relatively to and-by the vl support member.

2. In combination With a support member having'a recess in the side thereof and spaced supporting "lugs lying With-in the recess With portions thereof appreciably below the outer surface of the said support member, of a tray vhaving a nlug with an underlying rib Which 4 extends beyond the face of the lug to form a lip, the .lug of the tray being adapted to fit Within the recess in the support member and to bear against the'outer ends of the said supporting lugs thereof, and the underlying rib on the lug of the tray fitting between the supporting lugs of the support member and the said lip engaging the inner surface Aor the said support member whereby Lthe tray is detachably maintained in position relatively to and by the said supportmember.
