HARVEY H. HOCKETT, OF DALLAS, OREGON.
wasnwarnn nncnrracrn.
'Application filed December 23, 1922. Serial No. 608,688.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HARVEY H. Hooxn'rr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dallas, in the county of Polk and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Washwater Receptacles, o which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates t improvements in the like, and more particularly to fa construction thereof providing in combination with a device of this character a conveniently arranged soap holder or tray.
An im ortant object of this invention is to provi e a device of this character forming a part of the normal construction of the wash water receptacle and which is arranged `so that the soap may be convenient of access and so arranged that it may at all times be readily removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide an addition of this character which will not in any wa detract from the appearance of the device with which it is employed and which will not interfere with normal use of the device.
I am aware that soap holders have been combined in basin'structures prior to this time but to my knowledge thesevsoa'o holders have always been combined in the form of a de ression formed in the upper surface of the asin upon which the soap is more or less in the way and from which the same maybe accidentall knocked into the water of the receptacle w ere it isy wasted.
Other objectsV and advantages of the invention will become apparent throughout'the course of the following description. l y 0 In the accompanying drawin s wherein for the urpose of illustration 1s shown af embodiment of my invention and prefer like reference characters designate wherein llike parts throughout:
Fi ure 1 1s a sectional viewshowing a soap older constructed inthe wall of a bath tub;
Figure 2 isa utransverse sectional view through the soap holder;I
Figure 3 1s a sectional view showing a.
modiiied form of construction; and Figure 4 shows the soap holder constructed in a splash board. Referr' yglnow more particularly to the drawings, t e numeral 10 indicatesthe wall of a Wash water receptacle, such r.as a sink,
bath tub, wash basin or the like.` By the term wall it will be understood that such devices as s lash boards 10a arranged above the ysink an not an integral part thereof are to be included. In the wall 10 in accordance w1th my invention an opening `11 is formed of suiicient size to ermit of ready access of the hand while hcl ing a cake of soap., Ar-
ranged at the rear or outer face of the Wall 10 1s a receptacle 12 consisting of a bottom 13 a rear wall 14 and an upper wall 15. This receptacle 12 is preferably cast integrally wlth the wall 10 and is merely in the form of a recess or depression formed in the wall. The bottom wall 13 slopes rearwardly and downwardly toward the rear wall 14 and 1s provided upon its surface with ribs 16 1n order that a cake of soap placed thereon may not stick thereto.
This lower wall has formed at its rear or lower end an outlet 17 which is in communication with the outlet 18 of the wash water receptacle above the trap 19v associated therewith so that all water collected within the receptacle may be drained away without danger of any return gases from the soil pipe passing through such opening. In Figure 1, I have illustrated the connection between the outlets 17 and 18 in the form of a conduit 20 cored inthe wall 10, but it will be readily understood that a conduit such as in- Teo dicated at 20 may be provided having couplings 21 whereby it may be connected to the outlets 17 and 18. Y u
While l have stated that the receptacle 12 is preferably formed integrally with theLwall 10 in casting the same, it will be readily understood that the receptable may be attached to the wall 10, as indicated in Figure 2, to cover the space behind the opening 11 which will be formed Vin this wall. `W1th such a construction, the enamel coating 22 a plied to the wash water receptacle and to t e receptacle 12 will 'cover the joint therebetween completely hiding the same. With such a Aconstruction a .coupled conduit will, of
course, be provided; The location o the receptacle 12 uponna wa'shwater receptacle is a matter of choice. In the construction of -wash basins, bath tubs and the like, this receptacle may -be used in lieu o@ the ordinary ove'row, in which use the conduit 20 will serve to return the overiow, water to the waste pipe above the trap 19 and below a plug y2? inserted to close the opening.
' tacle in combination witl the wash water retacle having an opening. formed through t e ceptacle; I do not limit myself to those specific structures hereinbefore set forth except as hereinafter claimed. -In the appended claim 'it will4 be understood that the term Wash Waterreceptacle includes not only the receptacle proper but any of those vertical or substantially vertical splash boards such as are commonly provided with sinks. It Will furthern'lore be understood .that the term integrally attached includes that construction illustrated in Figure 2 wherein the receptacle 12 is made to all appearances a unitary'portion of the wall 10 by the application of enamel thereto.
The combination with a wash Water rece side wall thereof below the upper edge thereof and permitting passage of the hand While holding a cake of soap, the usual drain outlet, drain ipe communicating with the drain outlet an plug for the drain outlet, of a receptacle arranged upon the outer Wall of the Wash water receptacle closing said opening and combining therewith to form a soap re ceiving pocket, the lower wall of said pocket being inclined and provided at its lowermost point with a drain openingbrsaid` drain open-I lng being in communication with said waste pipe at a point intermediate the trap and the lower face of the plug when in position in theV drain outlet whereby to provide a soap receptacle, and an overflow outlet for the wash water receptacle. l
In testimony whereof l hereunto affix my signature. A u
