To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SAMUEL HASLAM, a a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Flask Attachment, of which the following is a description.

My invention relates to an attachment for pocket flasks and particularly to; an attachment for so connecting the flask top with the flask body that the top may be unscrewed from the flask neck and then swung away from the neck for pouring the contents of the flask, the top in the meantime being securely held against displacement.

The general object of my invention is to provide a novel device for the indicated purpose which will efl'ectively hold the top in the position disconnected from the neck but will permit the top to be readily replaced on the neck and turned and screwed down thereon.

A further object of the invention is to provide a simple attachment which may be produced with the minimum expenditure of time, labor and material and which may be caused to engage the top without soldering or other slow or unneat methods as now generally employed.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifition, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the upper portion of a flask having my improved top holding attachment applied thereto;

In the illustrated example of my invention the letter A indicates the body of the flask, B, the screw top thereof, and O, the neck.

In accordance with my invention, I provide an arm 10 which in practice is stamped from sheet metal in a single piece. Said arm 10 includes at one end thereof a split ring 11 which is integral at one end with a side of said arm. The opposite end of said arm is hingedly secured by a pin 12 to a standard 13 rigid with the top of the flask body A.

The split ring 11 is bendable and when open may be sprung onto the top B after which the ring 11 is closed. To

hold the ring in the closed position the free end of the ring when produced is formed with a radial orapproximately radial lug 1 1 projecting outwardly. When the split ring 11 is closed about the flask top B, the lug 14 is forced into a notch 15 formed in the adjacent end of the arm 10 approXimately at the medial line thereof. In order that the ring 11 in the closed position be substantially symmetrical, that is to say, closed to a true circular form to present a cylindrical inner surface the arm 10 at a side of the notch 15 has a cut-out 16 in the end of the arm the width of the material of the ring 11 and curved in the true are of a circle. It will be observed that the arm and ring are formed integrally and that the initially free end of the split ring is fastened to the arm without the use of soldering.

The ring 11 accommodates the cap B sufficiently loose to produce in effect a swivel connection so that said top may be screwed or unscrewed freely, the top turning within the ring. When the flask top is unscrewed it may be swung with the arm 10 about the hinge pin 12 as a center, clear of the neck C for the pouring of the contents of the flask and may be as readily restored to position on the neck.

I would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, I claim:

1. An attachment for pocket flasks for hingedly securing the flask top, said attachment comprising an arm, means to hingedly mount the arm on the flask body on a side of the top, and a split ring integral with said arm and adapted to embrace the flask top, said split ring having means to engage the arm to hold the ring about said. to

A flask attachment for holding flask top, said attachment being in the form of an arm having a split ring on one end thereof provided with means to hold the ring in closed position about the top, and means to mount the opposite end of the arm on the flask top to permit a movement of the top from a position on the neck of the flask to a position away from-said neck.

A flask attachment for holding the top thereof, said attachment comprising an arm having means at one end'to-movably secure it to a flask body and having a notch in the opposite end, and a split ring integral at one end with said arm at a side of said'not'ch, the opposite end of the ringihaving an outwardly projecting lug adapted to'e'ngage the arm at said notch.

A. flask attachment for. holding jthe top thereof, said attachment comprisingan arm having means: at oneendto movably secure it to a flask 'body and having a notch in 15 the opposite end, and a split ring integral at one end With said arm at a side of said notch, the opposite end of the ring having an outwardly projecting lug adapted to engage the arm at said notch, the end of said arm having said notch having a cut-out at that side of the notch opposite the first mentioned end of thering, said cut-out having an inner surface curved in a true are of a circle to conform to the ring when said lug 25 is engaged in said notch.
