Description

Patented Apr, 15, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES S. GEOFF, F NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND.
FURNITURE POLISH.
No Drawing.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES S. GROFF, citizen of the United States, residing at Newport, in the county of Newport and State of Rhode Island, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Furniture Polish, of which the following is a specification.
'Ihis-invention relates to new and useful improvements in furniture polish, and more particularly to an-impro-ved compound of the above character particularly adapted for application to all varnished, enameled, porcelained, lacquered or natural wood surfaces as well as metal, marble and linoleum.
One of the objects of the present invention is to provide an improved compound which will not only be exceedingly efficient in use and give a highly desirable polish to the material or surface to which it is ap plied, but one which will also possess germicidal Value sufficient to comply with State and Federal regulations, and yet at the same time be safe to handle and use and be not easily ignitable.
A further object is to provide a polishing compound of the above general character which may be inexpensively manufactured.
Other objects will be in part obvious and no in part hereinafter pointed out.
The present invention consists chiefly in retaining all the features attributable to a combination of chosen and prepared, fixedand essential oils and other liquids as clean :15 ing and polishing agents for the purposes and objects stated and in using this compound of oils or other liquids as a vehicle or carrier of an acid, alkaline, or neutral ingredient possessing recognized germicidal 4 properties. an example of the preferred compound, l use substantially of paraiiine oil; 40 Z; of drying and non-inflammable agents, such as kerosene and carbon tetrochloride, respectively; about 8% of essen- Application filed April 27, 1921. Serial No. 465,011.
tial oils, such as cedar wood and origanum, 4 which contribute to the high polishing character of the compound, and about 2% of an active germicidal agent, such, for example, as coal tar derivatives, cresol being especially satisfactory. so
It will be understood, however, that the uses of and minor changes in the proportions of ingredients herein stated shall not be construed as confining the following claims to the literal description herein contained.
This new compound is believed to be of material value to the public inasmuch as its practical use insures hygienic and sanitary protective results. In the commercial con pound of my'invention, the germicidal in gredients are of sufficient strength when in combined solution as to warrant its general use in medicating, purifying and polishing all surfaces as aforesaid. It will thus be seen that the present invention provides a (so simple and practical polishing compound, particularly adapted to accomplish, among others, all of the objects and advantage." herein stated.
I claim as my invention:
l. A polishing composition including a liquid mixed with substantially 2% of c-resol.
2. A polishing composition including fixed and essential oils mixed with substantially 2% of cresol.
3. A polishing composition comprising substantially 50% of parailine oil, 400% of drying and non-inflammable agents, and 8% of essential oils mixed with a germicidal agent. so
41. A polishing composition comp-rising fixed and essential oils, such as substantially 50% of paraflin oil. 40% kerosene, and carbon.tetrochloride, 8% of oil of cedar and 2% of cresol.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES S. GEOFF.
