To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ADAM W. KAUFMAN,
a citizen of the United States, and resident of Milwaukee, in the county ofMilwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Urged Closures; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof..
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in closure devices wherein the closure member is resiliently held in its open and closed positions, and the invention relates more particularly to the provision of a closure device for the oil aperture of the timer casing of an automobile structure.
It is in general the object of my invention to simplify and otherwise improve the structure, cheapen production and mincrease the efficiency and durability of closure devices of this character.

The heel extension is also provided with a slot 15, adapted to receive the free end of a leaf spring 16 bearing against the disx, this spring being secured in place by a ring shaped end portion 17 secured between the thimble 10 and the base of the arm extension of the base plate.7.
When the disk is in closing position, the spring will bear thereagainst to resiliently hold it in such position and said spring at all times holds the pintle extensions 13 of the plate in the bearing extensions 1a of the recess 19 of the base plate. The disk may thus be rocked outwardly by engagement with a fingerpiece extension 18 on its free end, and in this rocking movement the leaf spring will enter the slot 15. Outward movement of the heel portion of the disk is limited by abutment with the thimble 10, in which iosition it will be held by the spring 16 as shown in Figure 2- and the oil aperture of the timer casing is thus entirely unobstructed in the open position of the heel portion of the disk.
I have thus provided an exceedingly simple, readily manipulated and highly efficient closure device which will retain its desired features of operation upon continued use, it being noted that the wear incidental to movement of said heel portion of the disk is distributed along the entire end edge of the closure plate, which engages against the casing surface, thus relieving the pintle portions from excess wear.
While I have shown and described a preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be appreciated that various changes and modifications of structure may be employed to meet differing conditions of use and manufacture, without departing in any manner from the spirit of my invention.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. The combination with a timer casing provided with an oil delivery aperture, of a delivery aperture plate secured to the casing above its oil aperture and having an arm projected laterally from the plate, a shifting rod thimble carried by said arm, said arm being provided with a recess at its point of intersection with the plate, a disk having a heel extension fulcrumed in said recess and provided with a transversely disposed slot adjacent said arm, and a leaf spring secured at the outer end of the arm and engaging the slot to urge said disk toward said plate.
2. A closure device of the class described comprising an apertured base plate having an arm extending therefrom, a thimble carried by the base plate arm, a spring secured between the thimble and arm and having its free end projecting toward the aperture of said base plate, a swinging disk having a slotted heel extension constituting a fulcrum therefor, the free end of the spring being adapted to engage one edge of the heel slot of said disk whereby pressure is exerted upon the aforesaid disk when it is swung open to hold said disk in contact with the thimble and to hold the said disk upon its seat about the base plate aperture when said disk is swung in the opposite direction.
3. In a rotary casing having an oil hole therein, a separable closure therefor comprising a base plate secured to the casing, having an aperture therein in register with the oil hole of the rotary casing, an arm extending from the base plate, a spring secured to the arm and having its free end projecting towards said base plate aperture, a swinging disk having a heel extension provided with a transversely disposed slot, one edge of which slot is engaged by the free end of the spring, whereby pressure is exerted upon said disk to hold the same upon its seat about the plate aperture and to hold the aforesaid disk in open position when it is swung toward the arm.
4. The combination with a member provided with an oil hole of a closure for the oil hole provided with a shank extension that is slotted at an intermediatepoint and fulcrumed upon the member at one end, and a spring secured to said member and having a free end portion extending through the shank slot of the aforesaid closure and bearing upon one margin of the slot to hold the closure in position.
5. The combination with a member provided with an oil hole of a closure for the oil hole provided with a shank extension that is slotted at an intermediate point, and fulcrumed upon a sup ort at one end, and a s ring secured to said member and having a ree end portion extending through the slot and bearing upon one margin thereof to hold the closure in position, and means for preventing lateral movement of the closure.
6. The combination with a member having an aperture therein, a lid adapted to serve as a swinging closure for the aperture of said member; said lid havin a slotted shank arranged with its extremity loosely fulcrumed on said member, and a spring secured to said member and projecting through the slot of the lid shank in pressure engagement with the shank to hold it in place.
7. The combination with a member having an aperture therein, a lid adapted to serve as a swinging closure for the aperture of said member, said lid having a. slotted shank arranged with its extremity loosely fulcrumed on said member, and a spring secured to said member and projecting through the slot of the lid shank in pressure engagement with the shank to hold it in place, said member having an open fulcrum socket for the shank, and the spring being adapted for relative sliding movement through the aperture when the lid is swung from closing osition.
8. The com ination with a member having an aperture therein, a lid adapted to serve as a swinging closure for the aperture of said member, said lid having a slotted shank arranged with its extremity loosely fulcrumed on said member, and a spring secured to said member and having a free end portion projecting through the slot of the 11d shank in pressure engagement with the shank to hold it in place under resilient pressure in either 0 en or closed position, the spring having re ative sliding movement through the aperture when the 11d is swing- 1n The combination with a casin provided with an oil duct and a member aving an arm, of a sprin secured to the arm and having its free en projecting toward said duct, a swinging cover for said duct having a heel extension provided with a transversely disposed slot, one edge of which is engaged by the free end of the spring whereby pressure is exerted upon said cover to hold same upon its seat over the duct and to hold the aforesaid cover in open position when it is swung toward the arm.
10. In a timer, the combination with a casing provided with an oiling aperture, of
an arm member secured to the casing and outwardly pierced to form an aperture having a flange thereabout, said aperture being over and in register with the aperture in said casing.
11. In a timer, the combination with a rotatable casing having an apertured inclined portion, ofan arm member having an outwardly flanged apertured portion parallel with and adjacent the inclined portion of the casing, and a reenforced apertured portion normal to the axis of the casing.
12. In a timer, the combination with a rotatable casing provided with an oiling aperture, of an arm provided with an outwardly flanged oiling. aperture and a second aperture for a bearing thimble, both apertures being disposed in a common axial plane, and spaced means intermediate said apertures for attaching the arm member to the casing with the oiling apertures in register, said plane passing centrally between said spaced attaching means and through the axls of the casing.
