UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN E. oLEMINsHAw, on TRoY, NEW YORK. Y
IMPROVEMENT IN STOP-VALVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,930, dated March 24, 1874; application filed August 21, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. CLEMIN- sHAw, of rFroy, in the county of Rensselaer and in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stop- Valve; and do hereby declare that the followv ing is a full, elear, and exact description thereoi', reference being had to the accompanying drawin gs, and to the letters of referen ce marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a stop-valve, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Figure l represents a vertical section of my valve. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the same.
a represents the shell of an ordinary globe valve, provided with the spindle o and shank e in the usual manner. l l represent tubes, which are screwed into the shell at opposite sides, and are provided with taper ends and projections z' t', as shown in Fig. l. The inner vends orn these tubes form the seats for the valve g to shut of the iiow of water. To the lower end of the spindle is secured the valve or plug g by means of the hollowr nut b, which screws into the top of the plug, and binds it o, the plug can be reground without removing it from the spindle.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim- The combination of the shell a with the valve-seat t', formed of the hollow screw-plugs l l, the spindle c, shank e, conical plug g, and nut b, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of August, 1873.
BENJAMIN F. CLEMINSHAVV.
IVitnesses:
