Description

April 1 1924. 1,489,195
' J. J. CRAIG I I t l @7222 d frg igg Patented Apr. 1, 1924.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FLY STOP.
Application filed September 21, 1923. Serial No. 664,091.
To all whomit may concern: Be it known that I, JOHN J. CRAIG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Como, I
in the county of Panola and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and useful Fly Stop, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device especially designed for use in connection with swinging closures to guard the space between the closure and frame in which the same is moving, to eliminate any possibility of flies or other insects entering therebetween.
Another important object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be readily and easily applied to the usual screen closure construction, eliminating the necessity of making alterations in the closure construction to apply the device.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter de scribed and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing: Figure 1 isean ele-vational view disclosing a closure supplied with a guard constructed in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1. I
I Figure 3 is a sectional View taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure -l is a front elevational view of the guard disclosing the means for supporting the bristles. I
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Figure 4.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
reference character 5 designates the closure to which the guard, I forming the subject matter of the invention, is applied.
The guard includes bristles 6, which may be of any desired material, and a. supporting member 7 which is formed of a length of metal bent upon itself to provide opposed clamping members, the ends of the length of metal being turned in at 8 to in sure against the bristles being forced from their support, at the ends thereof.
As shown, by Figure 2 of the drawing, the guard is especially designed for attachment to the upper and lower edges of the closure, and to this end, the free edges of the supporting member are turned downwardly at 9 to bend the bristles supported thereby, at right angles to the support. g
Screws 10 pass through suitable openings in the supporting member 7 and secure the guard against movement on the closure.
Thus it will be seen that when a closure is supplied with a guard of this character, the
space between the closure and frame in which the same moves, is guarded when the closure is moved to its active position.
WVhat is claimed as new is o A guard for screen closures including a supporting member, said supporting member comprising a length of metal bent intermediate its side edges, bristles positioned between the overlying surfaces of the supporting member, the ends of the supporting member being bent inwardly to restrict movement of the bristles from the supporting member, and means for securing the bristles between the overlying surfaces of the supporting member.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
W. T. AnNoLn, R. G. WALLACE.
