CLOTHES-WASHING DEVICE.
Appucann mea 111111117, 192s. Serin 110.632,81.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that we, JOHN E. VAIL and CHARLES E. STUBER, citizens of the United States, and residents of Garden Grove, in
the county of Decatur and State of Iowa,
have invented a new and Improved Clothes- Washing Device, of which the following is' Y a description.
Our invention relates to a device in the form of a waterproof bag within which clothes may be placed and the sides of the bag manipulated to effect a waslnng of the clothes.
The general object of our invention is to A more specific object'of the invention is to provide a washing device in the form of' a bag in which the articles to be washed may be placed and which is useful as a water bucket convenient for example in lilllng the radiator of an automobile.
The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a Side elevation of a washing device embodying our invention, a portion of the inner side of the device being broken away;
Figure 2 is a transverse section 1n a plane indicated by the line 2-2, Figure 1;
In carrymg out our invention in accordance with the illustrated example a bag is provided having sides 10 and 11, the bag bein made with suitable waterproof materia and in any desired shape. On the bag at the inner surface of the sides 10 and 11, rubbing ribs 12 are provided advantageously by ribbed strips 13 of rubber vulcanized onto the bag sides. i
The ribs 12, it will be observed, are oblique to the vertical axis of the bag and the ribs on one side 10 cross the similar ribs on the opposite side 11. The urpose of giving obli uity to the ribs as s own is to make the riibbing action effective and to give the clothes a tendency to keep moving toward the center rather than toward the corners of the bag.
On the outer surface of the bag at both sides are hand loops or e uivalent hand holdsv 14 .which may' be "ma e of strips of 'broad tape secured by adhesive material,
stitched or the like at their ends to the bag.
There is a pair of the hand loops 14 on the effectively cleanse the clothes.
In practice the clothes are placed in the bag with water and soap or other detergent and the bag hung up until the clothes have soaked for the proper period of time. The washing operation is then carried out and afterwards the dirty water is poured away and clean water substituted so that by a further rubbing of the sides of the bag the clothes may be thoroughly rinsed. For suspending the bag during the soaking of the clothes a twisted handle 16 is shown on the bag at the top in the illustrated example, saidl handle being adapted to be hung on any convenient part of an automobile, on a fence, tree, or the like, or on a xture in the wash room of a railway train or in the stateroom on a boat or ship.
Advantageously, in practice, we provide the bag within the open top with a fiap- 15 which when folded into the inner osition in the bag lies between the ribs an serves to prevent the splashing of Water in the washing of the clothes.
For draining the bag a drain cock 17 is provided at the bottom of the bag, here shown as positioned at the corner. Said drain cock also serves to adapt the' bag for use as a water bucket for carrying water for example to an automobile and then filling said radiator by placing the cock 17 at the radiator neck.
We would state in conclusion that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of our invention, we do not limit ourselves strictl to the exact details herein illustrated, s1nce, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied Without dearture from the spirit of the invention as efined in the appended claims.
aving thus described our invention, we claim y n 1. A clothes washing device consisting of a waterproof bag adapted to contain the clothes and washing water, and rubbing ribs on the bag in osition to have rubbing contact with the c othes by a relative movement of they sides of the bag. t
2. A clothes washing device consisting of a waterproof bag adapted to contain the clothes and washin water, and oblique ribs on the interior o the bag positioned to have rubbing contact with the clothes Within the bag when the sides of the bag are mani ulated with a rubbing action.
3. clothes Washing device consisting of a Water roof bag adapted to contain the clothes antiwashin water, and oblique ribs on op osite sides o the interior o f the bag, the ri s on the respective sides being of opposite Obliquity.
4. A washing device consisting of a waterproof bag adapted to contain clothes and washing water and having .members on the :ioL
iap within the bag at vthe top to prevent splashin of the washing water.
6. A c othes Washing device consisting of a Waterproof bag adapted to contain the clothes and Washing water, and rubbing ribs on the bag in osition to have vrubbing con# tact with the c othes by a relative movement Y of the sides of thebag; to etherl with transverse hand loops arrange in alii'iing pairs on the exterior of the bag atv opposite sides.`
