ANDREW J. BROOKS, OF ST. JOSEPH, MISSOURI, ASSIGNOR, BY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO STANDARD OIL COMPANY, INDIANA, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF INDIANA.

To all whom it may concern:
.Be it known that I, ANDREW J. Bnooxs, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Jose h, in the county of Buchanan and State of issouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Air-Hose Protectors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to fluid dispensing apparatus and more particularly to air hose protectors, the principal object of the invention being the protection of air hose commonly employed for inflating automobile tires, the present application .being a continuation, in part, of a joint application filed by Oliver M. King and myself March 10, 1919, Serial No. 281,893.
In the accompanyin drawings, wherein embodiments of the invention are illustrated:
Fig.1 is a perspective view of an apparatus embodying the invention, the housing being broken away to show the contained parts.
Figs. 2 and 3 are enlarged detail rspe'ctives of the upper and lower brac ets and parts associated therewith.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section of the apparatus.
Referring more in detail to the drawings:
1 designates a housing, preferably supported on a concretebase 2 and provided with a bottom opening 3, and side openings 4 and 5 through which access may be had to the working parts for installation, inspection and repair. The respective openings are provided with a cover plate 6 and doors 7 7 Located within the housing are upper and lower brackets 8, 9, preferably comprising cnd flanges 8', 9', that lie vertically against opposite walls of the housing and are attached thereto by bolts 10. Mounted on the upper bracket 8 is a pulle block 11, carrying a wheel 12, and form integrall with the lower bracket 9 is a pulley bloc 13, carrying a wheel 14.
A cable 15 passes over the pulley wheel 12 and runs through openings 16, 17 in the Serial No. 456,919.
bracket 8. Secured to one end of the cable is a hose guide 18, preferably consisting of a pulley block 19 and its wheel 20, and secured to the other end of the cable is a weight 21 that counterbalanc'es the guide and the hose carried thereby, as presently described.
Run over the wheel 20 in the hose guide and over the wheel 14 on the stationar pulley block 13 is a hose 22, one end of whic is connected with an air supply pipe 23. The other end of the hose is run through an opening 24 in the housing so that it may be accessible from the exterlor, the free end of .the hose being provided with a nozzle 40.
To facilitate use of the hose and protect V itfrom wear, I line the opening 24 with anti-friction rollers 25, having axles 26 carried by flanges 27 on a plate 29 attached to the housing.
The hose guide is guided in its vertical travel by a rod 30, suspended from the up per bracket 8 and connected with the lower fixed pulley block 13 and the weight is guided by a hollow standard 31, carried by an upper bracket 32 that is attached to the housing and by a clamp 33 that is attached to the lower bracket 9.
It will be understood from the foregoing that the weight 21 will normally hold the guide 18, together with the hose 22, in the position shown, and that when the free end of the hose is drawn to one side, as is done in inflating a tire, the upper part of the 100 of the hose is drawn down, thereby pu ling the cable 15 around the ul- Iey 12 and raising the weight 21. en the free end of the cable 1s released the weight draws, the parts back to the position shown in the drawings.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to'secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a housing having an opening therein, a tubular standard within the housing, a weight slidable within the standard, a cable connected at one end to the weight, a pulley block connected to the other end of the cable, a pulley in said block, a pulley block fixedly mounted adjacent the top of the standard, a pulley in said fixedly secured block, over which the cable passes,
a pulley block fixed to the standard near named block, and an air hose passing over the? cable-connected pulley and over the fixed pulley, one end of the hose projecting through the opening in the housing.
2. Air supply apparatus for vehicle service stations, comprising an upright hollow standard, an air supply duct and a guide pulley located near the base thereof, a traveling pulley adapted to travel vertically ad; jacent to the standard,- a housing for said traveling pulley, a fixed pulley mounted adjacent the top of said standard, a cable secured to said pulley'housing and ass? ing over the fixed pulley at the top 0 the standard, a counter-weight fastened to the cable and located within and guided by said hollow standsird for constantly urging the traveling pulle to rise, and an air hose coupled at one en to said sup ly duct and passing thence over the traveling pulley and thence under the guide pulley.
3. In a fluid. dispensing ap aratus, the combination of a hollow stan ard or column, a pulle supported adjacent the upper end of t e column, a cable extending over said pulley and into the column, a hose guide attached to the end of the cable out side the column, a weight attached to the end of the cable within "the column, and a flexible hose supported b said hose guide and rovided at one en with means for attac as and for the purpose described.
