J. MAYE COLLAR AND TIE SUPPORT Filed Dec. 15 1922 INVENTOR A TTORNE Y "Ear.a 1, 19240 Fatent JACK MAYE, F JOSON CITY, NEW YORK.
cornea AND 'rrn surronr.
Application filed December 15, 1922. Serial No. 607,075.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that l, JACK MAYE, a citizen of the United States, residing in Johnson City and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar and Tie Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is in the way of a collar and tie support or brace, and the object of the inventlon is to provide a simple and practical device of this kind, which may be readily attached to any collar, and which when properly adjusted in lace will serve to support the collar an spread same against wrinkling, and will also serve to brace the neck-tie outwardly and hold it against slipping down.
In the drawing: 1 Figure 1 is a frontalview of the device as v attached to a collar, the tie being omitted.
Figure .2 is an elevation of the device, removed from the collar.
Figure 3 is a detail showing a method of adjustably connecting two stem sections.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of an mtegral wire structure designed to serve as a modification of the structure shown in the preceding views.
The invention consists of an M=shaped structure of sheet metal strips or wire, and embodying two relatively parallel outer stems 1 .joined from their upper ends 2 by two inwardly and downwardl inclined stems 3 which meet and are joine in turn in the button engaging fork 4, adapted toset over the collar button 5. Collar engaging clasps 6 are mounted on the lower ends of the stems 1, the same being adapted to engae the lower and frontal corners 7 of the coar 8, while the upper corners 9 of the device are-thrust up inside the collar flaps 10 and find a bearing in the upper fold 11. Thus the structure operates to stretch the frontal flaps of the collar and to hold same always free from wrinkles. The necessary adjustability and resiliency may be imparted to the device by either constructing it of spring wire as shown in Figure 4 and embodying extra loops 12 therein; or else by making the stems 1 and 3 each in two sections as shown in Figures 1 and 2 and slidingly connecting these sections together by crimping over the edges of one section as shown at 14 in Figure 3 and adapting the other section to slide thereinto, where it is held by frictional engagement at any point desired. A tie brace or bar 13 may be mounted across the upper part of the stems 3, to serve for forcing the neck-tie outwardly and to hold same in place.
While I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention, as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
A collar and tie support, comprising an shaped structure adapted for insertion within the collar flaps, the lower ends of the outer stems embodying collar engaging means, and the lower juncture of the inner stems embodying means for engaging the collar button, the said outer stems being made sectional and slidingly mounted together.
JACK MAYE.
