SOHAMU MORITZ MOSOHOOWITZ, OF NEI/V YORK, N. Y.
iNlPRGi/EMENT IN UMBRELLINCASS.
Specification forming part ofLctters Patent No. lll, dated March 17, 1874; application tiled September 11, 1873.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, SCHAMU MORITZ Moscu- GOWITZ, ofthe city of New York, county and State ot' New York, have invented certain Improvements in Umbrella-Gases, ot' which the iollowin g is a specication M y invention consists in providing a new case for umbrellas, parasols, and articles of that nat-ure, whereby the case can always be kept attached to the umbrella, and not liable to be lost or mislaid. It is elastic, so that the umbrella will be compressed to a small size. It is water-proof, so that, if used when the umbrella is wet, the umbrella can be handled without inconvenience, and the ends are provided with elastic rin gs-the one on the small end to keep the case in proper place, and the one on the large end upon which to roll the case back when the umbrella is opened for use, as shown in Figs. l and 2 of the draw ings.
Figure l is a view of an extended umbrella, with case rolled back upon the .staif over and upon the ring O. Fig. 2 shows an umbrella closed, with the case partially rolled back upon the ring O as in the act of putting on or moving off the case; and Fig. 3 is a view of an umbrella with the case fully upon it.
This case may be made oi sill; or any other sott pliable material 5 but for many reasons I prefer thin india-rubber, and made tubular, of suitable shape to tit closely to the article to be incased, the large or upper end ot' which I attach to an elastic ring, C, for'thc purpose of rolling the case baci; upon, and I also use at the lower end an elastic ring, for the purpose ot securing the casein place upon the umbrella; but it may also be fastened in various ways to the umbrella-staff. This ring 'O at the upper end of the case is an important part ot my invention. Rings may also be used in different parts ofthe case t0 make the umbrella more compact; but this I do not deem essential, as my case, being elastic, will compress the umbrella sut'ticientl".
These cases may be made either with or without a seam 5 but I intend to furnish them without seam.
In the drawing, A is the case, and is shown as incasing the umbrella, and also when partially rolled back upon ring O, and also when fully rolled back and the umbrella extended. B shows the ring which secures the case to the umbrella-stall, and O the ring upon which the case is rolled when the umbrella is to be used, and from which it is unrolled when the umbrella is not in use.
I claim- As a new article of manufacture, the umbrella-case consisting ot' the tubular sheath, of rubber or other pliable material, in combination with one or more elastic rings, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
SCHAMU MORITZ MOSOHOOWITZ.
