H. J. NORDSETH CLASP Filed Feb. 19. 1923 llatenteol llllar. el, "EQ2-fl?.
titane CLASP.
Application filed February i9, 1923. Serial No. 620,033.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, HALFDAN JoHANNns Nonnsn'rri, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of San Francisco7 county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented a new and useful Clasp of which the following is a specification.
rlhe present invention relates to improvements in clasps for arm bands and the like and its particular object is to provide a clasp to cover the joint in an arm band that will be pleasing inappearance, convenient to handle durable and that will not in any way cut into the arin band or otherwise injure the material out of which the arm band is made. Further objects and advantages of my invention will appear as the specification proceeds.
The preferred form of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which Figure l shows a perspective view of an arm band with my clasp attached thereto, Figure 2 a cross section taken along line ll-H of Figure l, Figure 3 a perspective view of the clasp which is attached to the arm band, Figure l a perspective View illustrating the manner of constructing the clasp, Figure 5 a detail view showing the joint of the arm band the way it appears before my clasp is attached thereto and Figure t3 a perspective View of my clasp in an intermediate stage. lWhile l have shown only the preferred form of the invention l wish to have it understood that various changes or modifications may be made within the scope of the claim hereto attached without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The arm band (l) may be made in any suitable manner. It is ordinarily made of elastic material and is formed into an arm band by placing the two ends (2) and (3) in overlapping relation as shown at Figure 5 and clamping the ends together by means of a clamping ring (a), the ends of which overlap as shown in Figure 2 whereby the two ends may be squeezed together tightly. My clasp (6) is designed to encircle the joint so as'to give the saine a pleasing appearance and to smooth the joint so that the latter does not injure the shirt sleeve or whatever the, arm band is used on. My clasp is preferably made of a strip of metal (7) having two marginal flanges (8) folded upon the metal as shown at (9) so as to form two guideways with the metal strip into which may be slipped an insert (l1). For the latter l preferably use Celluloid material which in appearance affords a leasing contrast with the metal border. understood of course that l do not wish to be confined to celluloid but wish to secure protection on any other material serving substantially the same purpose. rl`he insert. is preferably made to match the color of the arm band. After the insert has been guided into its place in the manner shown in Figure 3 the metal strip is bent in the manner shown in Figure 6 into a U-shape with the flanges (9) and the insert presented on the outside. ln this form the clasps are preferably put on the market by the manufacturer. To place the same on the arm band it is only necessary to slip it over the joint and to apply suitable pressure for forcing the two ends together in the manner shown in Figure 2. rlhe size of the clasp could be such that when its ends are pressed together it will encircle the whole joint without overlapping. The two ends are disposed in confronting relation preferably so as to leave a small space (l2) between the same.
lt will be seen from Figure 1 that the clasp when attached to the arm band covers the joint completely and forms a very simple protection for the sleeve as well as for the joint, the edges engaging the band being rounded as shown at (13) in Figure 6. rlhe color scheme may be selected to harmonize and the insert is preferably made of the same color as the arm band while the two narrow rings (lll) formed by the bent over margins of the metal plate furnish a pleasing contrast.
l claim:
A clasp of the character described, comprising a strip of metal bent to encircle an object having marginal flanges folded upon the outside of the strip and an insert of diierent material matching the color of the object covering the body of the strip clamped between the flanges and the strip.
