Description
. P. KLEIN amm sAvEn Filed oct. so 1922- 2 sheets-sheet z Patented Feld. 26, i924..
UNTE STAT PETER KLEIN, OF ROSELAND, NEBRASKA.
GRAIN SAVER.
Application filed. October 30, 1922.
To all whom t 'may concern.'
Be it known that PETER KLEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roseland, in the county of Adams and State of Nebraska, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain Savers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a grain saver and is adapted to be arranged between the bin and VWagon or receptacle being unloaded.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide a device to be arranged between the grain bin and a wagon or receptacle being loaded so as to prevent any of the grain from from being spilled on the ground.
It is also an object of the present invention to provide a device of this character which is adjustable and is supported adjacent the grain bin where it can be readily arranged in operative position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a grain saving device which includes a plurality of sections adjustably connected together and resilient means for holding the sections against the grain bin and wagon or receptacle respectively.
With the preceding and other objects and advantages in mind the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, constructions and arrangement of parts and operation to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure l is a plan View of the device in use;
Figure 2 is a perspective of the same when not in use;
Figure 3 is a vertical sectional view taken on lines 3-3 of Fig. 1;
Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on lines 4 4: of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail wherein corresponding characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several views the numeral 5 designates a plate of sheet metal having one of its longitudinal edges formed with clips 6 which are bent around a rod 7, the latter being provided with loops 8 loosely engaged in eyes 9 arranged on the grain bin.
'Ihe opposite transverse ends of the plate 5 are bent upon themselves to adord channelshaped guides 10, while the extreme ends of this plate are extended in divergent relation to aord side walls 11. A metal plate sec- Serial No. 597,897.
A plate section 16 is hinged to the rod 7 and like the plates 5 and 12 are provided with side walls 17. Coil springs 18 encircle the rod 7 and have their ends extended to aline against the plate 5 and section 16 and normally hold the plate 16 against the grain bin.
Normally the device is suspended to lie parallel to the side walls of the grain bin but when it is desired to arrange the same in an operative position it is simply swung away from the grain bin to lie against the wagon or other receptacle being loaded. In the event that it is impossible to back the wagon close enough to the grain bin the plate section 12 will be then adjusted to the wagon.
While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, I realize that various minor changes may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed, therefore, I do not wish to limit myself to the exact details of construction shown, nor to the combination and arrangement of parts.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the character described a plurality 'of plate sections provided with side walls, one of the plate sections being hinged to an adjacent plate section and adapted to lie against a structure upon which the device is supported, longitudinal guides in the intermediate plate sections and receiving the lowermost plate section, and means for holding the latter plate section in adjusted position. f
2. In a device of the character described, a plate section having end walls, a rod connected with one of the longitudinal edges of the plate section and provided with eyes, adapted to be hingedly connected with a grain bin or the like, a second plate section longitudinally adjustable with respect to the first mentioned plate section, and a third plate section hinged to the rod, and resilient means urging the latter into engagement with the grain bin.
3. A device of the class described comprising a central plate section having channelshaped guides extending along the side edges thereof, upstanding Walls arranged at said sides, an end plate section slidable in said channel-shaped guides, and having upstanding Walls cooperating With said aforementioned Walls to permit adjustment of said plate sections, means for supporting said central plate section on a grain bin, and an additional end plate section hinged to the opposite end of said central plate section and adapted to be urged against said grain bin.
4L A device of the class described comprising a central plate section having channel-shaped guides extending along the side edges thereof, upstanding Walls formed on said side edges, an additional plate section associated With the forward end of said central plate section and adapted for slidable movement in said channel-shaped guides, said last mentioned plate section having upstanding -Walls cooperating With the aforementioned Walls to permit adjustment of said end plate section with respect to said central plate section, means carried by said central plate section for supporting the same on a grain bin, a third plate Section hinged to the opposite longitudinal end of said central plate section and having upstanding side Walls cooperating with the upstanding Walls formed on said central plate section, and resilient means for normally urging said third plate section against said grain bin.
lln testimony whereof I ax my signature.
PETER KLEN.
