DANIEL ERNEST PARSONS, OF KNOXVILLE, TENNESSEE.
PORTABLE-BUILDING CONSTRUCTION.
Application filed September '15, 1922. Serial No. 588,300.
To all'whom it may coniim Be it known that I, DANIEL E. PARsoNs, a citizen. of the United States, residin at Knoxville, in the'county of Knox and tate of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Portable-Building Constructions, of which the following is a specification.
In carrying out the present invention. it is my purpose to improve and sim lify the general construction of portable uildings such as garages and the like and to provide a portable buildingwherein the walls and roof will be composed of a plurality of sections or panels which may be readily and quickly assembled and disassembled when it is desired to erect or dismantle the buildforth in and falling within the scope ofthe appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portable building constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 1s a sectlonal view on the hue I 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary plan view of the slabs or sections.
Figure 4 is a sectional view "on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Figure 5 is a. similar view on the line 55 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a view similar to Figure 3 showing the inner side of the slabs.
Referring now to the drawings in detail, 1 designates a portable building comprising side and end walls and a top or roof. In the present instance the roof is of the gable type and is constructed in the same manner as the side walls and the back end wall.. This roof and each of the walls just mentioned is formed of'a plurality of sections or slabs 2. Each slab 2 is, in the present instance, square in' top plan and embodies a frame 3 and cross pieces 4 arranged within the frame 3 and disposed at right angles to each other. These cross pieces 4 intersect each otherat the center of the frame 3 and the ends thereof are connected to the respective bars of the frame. Arranged in contact with the edges of the bars of the frame 3 and the edges of the cross pieces 4 at one side of the frame iS a plate 5 of the same shape as the frame 3 and fastened to the frame and to the cross pieces in some suitable manner. The squares or spaces defined by the cross pieces and the bars of the frame 3 are provided with a weather proofing composition 6 in the form of sheets and this weather proof- .ing composition lies against the surfaces of the plate 5 contiguous to the bars of the frame 3 and the cross pieces 4 as clearly illustrated in Figures 3, 4 and 5 of the drawings, so that weather tight panels or sections will be provided. Thesepanels or sections are arranged edge to edge to form the particular wall-or roof portion and the bars of the frame are formed with alining openings .through which are passed securing bolts 7 equipped with nuts 8. These bolts and nut when tightened up after the bolts are passed in the alining openings in the assembled panel or sections, hold the panels securely together so that the particular roof portion or wall may be formed as is clearly apparent from inspection of Figure 1 of the drawings.
Manifestly when the opposed portions of panels or sections are tightly clamped together by the nuts 8 on the bolts 7 there is no liabillty of leakage between the said opposed portions. The pockets in the inclined roof members are very shallow and there fore unobjectionable since the small portion of water that will collect in the lowermost part of each panel will quickly disappear by evaporation.
In one or both side walls and in the rear end wall of the building if desired one of the sections. or panels 2 maybe removed so as to make provision for a window 9 as in Figure 1.
- In the present instance, the front end of 'the building is closed by doors 10 and above the doors between the top of the stance-are triangular in plan and formed in the manner similar to the panels or sections 2. V
It will, of course, be understood that a Suitable floor 12 of cement or the like material is provided, and a supporting frame work built upon the floor to which the walls and roof may be fastened. As this frame work may be of any conventional design it is not believed necessary to describe the.
same herein.
I have entered into a detailed description of the construction and relative arrangeinvention various changes and modifications may be made such as fall within the scope of my invention as defined in my appended claims.
Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is
1. A portable building comprising walls and a roof, each wall and the roof embracing a plurality of sections placed edge to edge and clamped together in said relations and each embodying a frame, cross pieces within the frame intersecting each other at right angles at the center of the frame and having their ends opposed and secured to the respective bars of said frame, a plate on the inner side of the frame, and a weather proofing composition inthe spaces defined by said cross pieces and bars on the outer side of the frame.
2. A portable building comprising walls and a roof, each wall and a roof embracing a plurality of sections placed edge to edge and each embodying a frame, cross pieces within the frame intersecting each other at right angles at the center of the frame and having their ends secured to the perspective bars of said frame, a plate on the inner side of the frame, and a weather proofing composition in the spaces defined by said cross pieces and bars on the outer side of the frame, and bolts passed through the bars of the assembled sections to hold said sections in proper relative positions.
3. A portable building structure including a plurality of wall and roof forming units, each unit comprising an open frame member, a pair of (moss frame members connected with the central portionsof the sides of said open frame member and with each other centrally thereof, a plate secured to the inner side edge of the frame member, and co-extensive with the open frame member, weather-proofing material mounted on said plate within the frame member, and means for detachably connecting said units in wall and roof forming relation to form a portable building.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature.
DANIEL ERNEST PAR-SONS.
