IIII'IIII"! I m A J Patented Jan. 29, 1924.
a FRY H. ELDREDGE, OF EAST ST; LOUIS, ILLINOIS.
FLASH-LIGHT STAND.
Application filed July 14, 1921. Serial No. @84397.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY H. Enonrmon, a citizen of the United States, residing at East St. Louis, inthe county of St. Clair and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Flash-Light Stand, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to supports, the primary object of the invention being to provide a support especially designed for supporting a flashlight or the like, so that the flashlight may be positioned in any convenient location to facilitate the repairing of motor vehicles or the like. I A further object of the invention is t provide a support of this character which may be folded into a comparatively small and compact article to permit the same to be conveniently carried in the usual tool kit.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a spring clasp to grip the flashlight and support the same against movement.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts-and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood an that changes in-the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without de arting from the spirit of the invention.
eferring to the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevational view of a support constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing a flashlight as ositioned thereon.
igure 2 is a sectional view taken on line 2-2.0f Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken on line M of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 designates the body portion of the support, which is provided with a central bore to accommodate the tubular shank 6, forming a part of the exten sion 7, the shank 6 being provided with a threaded extremity to receive the nut 8, by means of which the extension is held with in the body portion 5.
At the base of the body 5.are formed the ears 9 which provide means for connecting 5b the legs 10 to the body portion, the connection between the legs 10 and the ears 9 being such as to permit the legs to be folded inwardly. The lower extremities of the legs 10 are tapered to provide piercing points whereby the device may be forced into a surface to support the same in a rigid position.
A supporting rod 11 extends through the extension 7 and may be adjusted with re spect thereto so that the flashlight which is positioned on the support, may be moved to various heights to facilitate the use of the device. A winged screw 12 extends through the extension 7 and contacts with m the rod 11 to secure the same in its positions of adjustment.
Formed at the upper end of the rod 11 is an enlargement 13 which is apertured to receive the securing screw 14 that secures the clasp or'spring jaws to the rodll", the jaws being indicated by the reference character 15 and. shown as supporting the flashlight 16. j
The spring jaws 15 are formed from a a0 strip of flexible sheet metal, the same being bent intermediate its ends to provide a relatively fiat surface 17 to closely engage the enlargement 13 to prevent movement of the jaws with respect to the rod 11.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the support may be positioned in any suitable location, and a flashlight indicated at 16 positioned in the jaws to project its light rays in any desired direction to facilitate to the repairing of a motor vehicle in the dark.
It might be further stated that due to the connection between the jaws and rod 11, the jaws may be rocked with respect to the rod 11 to cause the flashlight 16 to be sup- 95 ported at various angles.
/Vhat is claimed as new is In a device of the character described, a bod portion having an opening formed cen trall y thereof, leg members pivotally con-Eta neoted to the body portion, an extension having a tubular shank positioned in the central opening of the body portion, said shank having a threaded extremity, a nut operating on the threaded extremity to hold the extension in various ositi'ons of adjust ment, a supporting rod having jaws at its upperend, extending through the extension and tubular shank thereof, and means pass- In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the gresence of two witnesses.
