ADJUSTABLE LAMP HGLDER.
Application filed January 943, 1922.
To all to from it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID KENNETH, a citizen of the United States, residing at the Printers Home, at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in an Adjustable Lamp Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvement in an adjustable lamp holder for search light or other light providing a portable and adjust able lamp: and the objects of my improve- ,ment are, first, to provide a convenient portable holder for a round flash-light lamp, that will be adjustable vertically and radially to any practical or desirable degree; second, to provide means for holding the light on a desired object by extending the height of the support or depressing it to the exact height; third, to provide means whereby the lamp can be instantly detached from the holder or attached thereto without the ma-nipulation'of an adjustment or fastening; fourth. to provide an adjustable holder for a flash light lamp for mechanical or scientific or domestic purposes obviating the attendance of an assistant.
I attain these objects by means of the mechanism illustrated ,in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is avertical broken view of the stand member and the holder member complete; Fig. 2, is an end view of the holder on its support; Fig. 3, is a plan view of the stamped blank from which the holder member is formed.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
1 indicates the base upon which the tubular support member 2 is rigidly mounted. 3 indicates the telescopic member of the support, secured inside of the tubular member 2 by means of the adjustable thumb screw 6, indicates the body or rib member of the holder having integral thereon the resilient clamping members 7 provided to clasp and hold the lamp El. and the integral jaw members 8 provided to secure pivotally the lamp member 9 indirectly upon the telescopic member The tubular support 2 and the telescopic member 3, may be manufactured in varied len ths to suit the particular requirements.
3 they may have more than one tubular Serial Ito. 531,154.
member if required. The usual friction of the jaw members 8 compress against the aws 11, by means of the thumbscrew 4;. which is resisted in its compression by the thimble 10, provides enough friction to retain the lamp in the desired position to which it may be adjusted from time to time in its various uses. This form of adjustable holder is very applicable in the holding of a flash light lamp in working under or about an automobile, or other intricate machine, and in surgery and scientific uses as well as domestic applications.
I also claim the form of the blank for the holder member to be unique, substantial and easily and cheaply constructed for the pur poses l have claimed for it and it can be used for holding other utilities as well as a lamp.
This leaves bot-l1 of the hands of the user free to do his work without holding the lamp in one hand and doing the work of two hands with one hand.
This form of holder is also unusually light and durable and easily grasped to carry from place to place, while the lamp, as it is clasped between the resilient jaw members 7, is easily and safely removed by one hand or replaced as easily with one hand while the other hand may be holding the support members 2 or 3.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- In an adjustable lamp holder of the class described, a base member, a telescoping tubular support member composed of a plurality of slidably secured members and rigidly mounted on said base member, atransverse lamp-holding member pivotally supported adjustably upon the top of said support member, a pair of upwardly projecting clamping lugs integral with said lampdiolding member at each of its ends provided to hold a flashlight lamp or similar lamp. and a pair of downwardly projecting jaw members integral with said lamp-holding memher and means for pivotally securing said jaw members to the sides of the top of said support member, substantially as set forth.
DAVID KENNETH.
