To allwhom it may concern:
Be' it known that I, WILLIAM D. KURZ, a citizen of the United States, residing at Appleton, in the county of Outagamie and,
State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Fuse Puller and Replacer, of which the following is a specification.
I The object of my invention is to provide a novel tool adapted to operate on all standard size fuses; to provide a tube that is convenient for electricians to carry, and to Fig. 2.

shown in Figs. 2 and 3. I further provide a series of spaced opposite grooves 7 in the small end of the pliers for holding wires tight when making joints on live wires, so that the operator is thoroughly insulated. At the opposite end of the tool I provide the opposite concave portions 6. A novel feature of my device is the provision of the rounded inside edges 9 to prevent pinching of the fingers should the pliers slip off the fuse and allow the portion of the pliers grasped in the hand to close suddenly. As indicated in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, the pliers are made of high insulating material, the preferred material being vulcanized fiber that is non-breakable.
The tool has been tested as safe to handle 4:,000 volts It will take in all standardsized no-arc fuses that are made. That is, one end takes in from 10 ampere to 100 ampere fuses; and the other endtakes in from 150 to 600 ampere'fuses. An eflicient joint is provided at the pivoting or hinging the plier members to each other, as shown in F igs. l and 3. The tool is of a shape that permits of its being conveniently carried by electricians in the pocket, and the rounded edges 9 protect the fingers from being pinched in the event that the tool slips off the work being held. All edges of the tool except the actual fuse-gripping portions are rounded. The end groove on the small end is intended to remove fuses of the size of a lead pencil or to tighten or loosen knots on live work; also, to re-form fuse clips when they have become bent out of shape. What I claim is: 1. In a fuse puller and replacer, like plier members of high insulating material, said.
plier members having a plurality of opposite concave portions at each end of the pliers, said concave portions being of different sizes suitable for operating on all standard-sized fuses, and a plurality 'of spaced opposite grooves in'the pliers of suit able size for holding wires when making joints on live wires.
2. In a fuse puller and replacer the combination of like pliermembers of high insulating material, the plier members having suitable opposite concave portions and grooves for operating on various sizes of.
fuses, etc., and the handles on the opposite end of the pliers having their inner edge surfaces substantially rounded at the portion of the pliers gripped by the' hand, whereby to prevent pinching of the fingers if the portion of the plier held by the hand suddenly closes. I
3. In a fuse puller and replacer the combination of like plier members of high insulating material, a pivot securing said plier members in operative engagement, the pliers having opposite concave portions for grasping fuses, etc., one end of each 'of the plier members being similarly tapered, said end having opposite concave portions ositioned within the tapered portion, where y afrelatively narrow operating portion will be rovided on the pliers, whereb to extend its usefulness, substantially as ereinbefo're described.
