Description

s?. HABE.
Window-Frames.x N0. 148,117 PatentedfMarch 3.11874.
SAMUEL HABE, OF MARTINSBURG, WESI` VIRGINIA.
IMPROVEMENT m WINDow-FRAMES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,117, dated March 3, i974 application filed February 7, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern:
` Be it known that I, SAMUEL HARE, of Martinsburg, in the county of Berkeley and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Window-Frame, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a sectional side elevation of my imcheaper, and more durable than the frames hitherto in use, and allows, also, the easy detaching of the sashes, cords, andweights for repairs, and the neat construction of the frame in cast-iron and other material. My invention consists in producing the box-frame, with its dividingstrips, of one piece, in connection with the sash-guiding piece, which is also made laterally of one piece to cover the box-frame, but divided into an upper and lower section, so that on detachin g the lower section, and bringing the sashes down, theymay be easily taken out'for repairs.
In the drawing, A represents the box-frame of the window-casin g, which is made of wood, cast-iron, or of other suitable material, and of one piece, with longitudinal recesses a for the weights, and a stationary dividing strip, b. The front piece B, in which the sa'shes are guided, is constructed of a top and bottom section, in such a manner that both are formed of one piece across the full width of the box, and provided with sash-guiding grooves d and central dividingstrip e. The upper section is arranged with the pulleys, over which the weight-cords run, and are screwed, or otherwise attached, to the boX-frame A, its inside closing the weight-boxes, while its outside serves to guide the sashes. The lower section is also screwed on, resting on the window-sill, the joint with the upper section being formed slightly above'the lower sash, so that when the lower sections are detached at both sides, and the sashes brought down, the latter may be easily taken out.
The cords and weights maybe disconnected at the same time from the sashes, and be renewed, together with other repairs of the frame 0r sashes, which may be attended to without the trouble and annoyance caused by the present mode.
The simplicity of the construction of this box-frame allows its cheaper production and more rapid setting up in buildings.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and -desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved window-frame, produced by a box-piece with grooves and central strip for the weights, in connection with the sash-guiding top and bottom sections, which close the weight-boxes, and may be detached, in the manner substantially as specified.
