Description

satema aan. is, i924.
GLENN HOFFMAN, OF SPRINGFIELD. ILLINOIS. ASSIGNOR TO HOFMAN MANUFAC- TUBING- COMPANY, F SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS, A CORPORATION OF ILLINOIS.
TRANSMISSION Bann.
apparatuur mea March 5, 1923. serial No. 622,914.
To aZZ whom'zt may concern.'
Be it known that I, GLENN R. HOFFMAN,
Ya citizen of the United States, residing at Springfield, in the county of Sangamo'n and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and usefullmprovernents in Transmission Bands; and'I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to`which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and gures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to transmission ference from the transmission gears of' the' Ford tvpe of car.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear the invention consists in the features hereinafter particularly describedvand then sought to be clearly defined by the claims,
reference vbeing had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, an in which-L- Figure l is a perspective of a removable' ea;` formed according to this invention;
Figure 2 is a'perspective of a portion of the metallic strap or band forming a part of the transmission band;
Figure 3 is a vertical longitudinal section through the removal ear and portion of the transmission band strap-and lining.
In the drawing the numeral `1 designates the removable ear of a transmission band constructed according to the present invention. The. shank of the ear is formed with slots 2 having enlarged portions 3, and to one end is attached by a rivet 3 or other. wise, preferably so as to swivel although it may not swivel, a metal strap 4, preferably spring metal, formed with a depending :Bange or hook 5. The transmission hand illustrated comprises a metal stra orl band having a lining 7 of woven fa ric or otherv material and provided with headed studs 8 designed to' enter the slots 2 and formed with a Blot 9 designed to receive the hook or Hange of the strap t when the ear is attached in operative position to 8 will enter the enlarged ends of the slots.
in the ear when the ear is slid so as to bring the studs into the narrower port-ions of the slots with the heads bearing down on the top face of the shank of the ear thus preventingspreading apart of thev ear and band. At the same time the flange ot the plate' or strap 4 is caused to en ter the slot 9 of the band 6` in which it may he held by the sprin tension of the plate and thus the ear will s prevented from slipping longitudinallyon the transmission band. lVhen the ear is to be disenaged from the hand the hook or' ange o the plate 4 will he pried out'of the slot 9 of the band 6 and the ear slipped back from the free end of the band so as to bring the heads of the studs in the enlarged portions ot the slots 2 when the ear can be vlifted from ofi they' band, and thus leave the transmission in condition to be removed from its drum withoutA interference between it and the transmission gears of the Ford type of car. The device is simple and efiicient in construction and manipulation.
Having described my invention and set forth its merits what I claim is:
1. A transmission band provided with a removable ear formed with slots having enlarged ends and provided at one endwith a plate'projecting beyond the end of the car and having a down-turned lip or angc. and a band provided w'ith headed studs to fit in the slots of the ear and formed with a' slot to receive the lip projecting from said plate. 2. A transmission'band provided with a .removable ear formedwith slots having enlarged ends and provided at one end with lGenitiv R. HOFFMAN. ,l
