IMPROVEMENT IN AIR AND VENT PLUGS.
Specicatiou forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,017, dated February 24, 1874; application filed February 16, 1874.
To all 'whom tmay concern:
Be it known that I, ISAAC V. ZANE, of Manch Chunk, in the county of Carbon and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Air or Vent Plug, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing. f

The object of my invention is to provide a simple, convenient, and effective means for allowing the escape of air from the chamber or discharge-valves of pumps, and to supply a vent for Water-pipes and vessels containing liquids.
' The devices `and their uses will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 1.
C represents the main plug, the` upper p0rtion of which is hexagonal. 4l) is the opening at the lower end. E E are openings. A is the inside plug, inserted in the main plug, and B is the janrnut.
The mode of operation is'as follows: The
main plug is screwed into the chamber, pipe, or vessel, and the opening is regulated by the inside plug, to accommodate the amount of air to escape, by screwing it in or out, from or to, the opening D. The air enters the open ing D, passes around the inside plug A, and escapes through the openings E E. When the inside plug A is suitably adjusted to regulate the vent, the jam-nut is screwed down to hold it to its place. p These devices are simple in construction, easily applied, not likely to get out of order, and are adapted to any uses to which a ventplug can be applied.
Having described my invention, I claim- The inside plug A, in combination with the chamber-plug C, the openingd), the escapeopenings E E, and the jam-nut B.
