KENT, a cit-1- zen of the United States. residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certaiirnew and useful Improvements in a Cabinet and Wardrobe; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap pertains to make and usethe same.

This invention relates to a cabinet and wardrobe, and the object is to provide a device which when folded will have the form of a trunk. and which is therefore readily transportable, and one which shall include a section constituting a wardrobe and a section constituting a cabinet, such as a kitchen cabinet, with a folding-table incorporated in the structure thereof.

A further object is to provide, in a device of the type indicated, a plurality of sections hingedly connected, and means whereby the sections are separated from each other, said means including a plurality of doors, one of which is movable to a position for affording a table. and the table itself being foldable into the chamber formed in one of the; sections.

A still further object is to provide a device which shall constitute in effect a shipping case, when folded. and which may be used as an article of furniture. affording all of the facilities of a wardrobe and a kitchen cabinet, including various compartments, and a table foldable into position for closing one of the compartments.

With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of elements hereinafter described and claimed, it

being understood that modifications may be made within the scope of the claims, without departing from the spirit of the in vention. I

In the accompanying drawings Figurel is a perspective view of a cabinet and wardrobe constructed in accordance with my invention, the device being shown closed.

Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device with the sections thereof in opened position.

Figure 3 is a perspective view of the device with the sections thereof in opened position and the table in position for use.

Figure-4 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 44 of Figure 2, and

Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 5-5 of'Figure 3.

The two main sections of the device are designated 10 and 12, the latter being of greater capacity and being designed to serve as a wardrobe. This section comprises the main wall 13, the side walls 14 and 15, the bottom 16, and the top 17. Elements l6 and 17 constitute end sections when the device is in folded position, and in the form resembling a trunk. This'section is provided with a series of drawers 19-, arranged in any suitable position, and operating within the frame work 20. The door 21 closes the entire section 12. and separates this portion of the device from the section 10 and the contents thereof.

The section 10 includes a main wall 24,

constituting the rear of the device when the I lattenis in use as an article of furniture. The side walls are shown at 25 and 26, and

the end upper and lower walls are designated 27 and 28. The upper portion of the section 10 is provided with a long shelf 29, and a vertical partition 30 divides the space between the shelf and the upper wall of the casing into two compartments. A second shelf 31 below the shelf just mentioned provides space for drawers 32, 33 and 34separated by partitions 35 and 36. A third shelf 37 is narrower than the shelves previously referred to, and is provided with a series of hooks 39.

A door frame 40 is hingedly connected with a strip 41 extending transversely of' the lower portion of section 10, and within the frame is a door 42, retained in position in any suitable manner, but preferably by securing devices 43, 44: and such as those shown in the drawings, in order that the door may be removed bodily for providing easv access to the interior of section 10.

A table 46 is connected by hinges 48'with the frame" 40. the latter serving as a brace when the table is in. horizontal position. Extending transversely of the inner edge of the table is a rod 50, the'projecting ends of which engage grooves 52in the walls of section 10, these grooves acting as guides. When the table is collapsed the inner edge portion moves downwardly, and the table and frame 40 fold against each other, the table resting against the edge of the lower dill nceopso shelf in section 10, and the frame resting against ledge 53. table is then approximately flush with the remaining shelves in this section, and a door 55 hinged at 56 closes the upper portion of the section, swinging on a vertical axis when the device is in the position illustrated, while the frame40, which closes the remaining portion of section 10, swings on a horizontal axis. The grooves are provided with ofi'set portions 56*, engaged by the ends of the rod when the table is in position for use, or in a horizontal position, engagement being effected by pulling the table member outwardly to a slight extent, when it is in locked position.

It should be added that the table is provided, or may be provided with folding leaves 59 and 60, so that the device when in operative position will afford a more extended surface. As previously intimated it is the intention, that section 10 of the device shall constitute in effect a kitchen cabinet, and provision has therefore been made for the storage of the numerous articles required in such manner that they are accessible while the folding table is in horizontal position and 'ready for use. On the other hand the table and its supporting device constitute in effect a door for the lower portion of the section 10, the arrangement being such that the upper door overlaps the surface 54 of the table, and therefore retains the latter in a folded position until this up per door is opened.

2. In combination, a cabinet section, a table normally located therein, a cabinet section being of a size to constitute a closet, a frame pivoted to the cabinet section on a horizontal axis and pivoted to the table on a horizontal axis, the table being adapted for projection from the cabinet in utile position, means to support the table on the cabinet in the latter position, said frame being inclined in the latter position to constitute a brace for the table, and a door carried by the frame to permit access to the space within the closet.
