JOHN THRILL, 0F KANKAKEE, ILLINOIS.
GASOLINE VAPORIZER.
Application led March 27, 1923.
To all whom t may concern.:
Be it known that l, JOHN THRILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kankakee, in the county of Kankakee and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gasoline Vaporizers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in gasoline vaporizers, primarily adapted for installation between the carburetor outlet and manifold inlet of internal combustion engines for facilitating the thorough vaporization of the combustible Huid.
The main object of my invention is the provision of such a vaporizer that is comparatively simple of construction, cheap of manufacture and of such a nature as to be applied to practically all types of gasoline engines with which l am now familiar.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indica-te similar parts in the several views, and wherein Figure 1 is a side elevational view of my vaporizer applied.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the vaporizer per se.
Figure 3 is a detail cross sectional view of the end of one of the air inlet nozzles,
and
Figure 4 is a fragmentary section through the body of a motor vehicle showing more clearly the end of the control rod for the air inlet valves of my vaporizer.
Referring to the drawings in detail, A designates a combustion engine carburetor, while B designates the inlet end of the engine manifold which is ordinarily adapted to be secured tc the outlet axle of the carburetor in a Well known manner. The elements A and B, however, are not of the essence of my invention, but are merely shown for the purpose of clearness.
My vapo-rizer per se constitutes the provi- -sion of a plate 5 of a conguration clearly shown in Figure 2, the same including a relatively large central opening 6, together with smaller openings 7, adgacent the oppo- Serial No. 628,109.
site ends of the plate. The plate 5 is formed on one edge thereof, with a pair of bosses 8, the same having screw threaded openings therein, the said openings passing through the plate and communicating with the said central opening 6. These openings are arranged at an angle to each other and have disposed therein the screw threaded ends of air tubes 9 which extend inwardly 65 cocks 14. Upon the nipples 15 at the op- 75 posite sides of these pet cocks are thimb-les 16, within the bottom walls of which are air inlet openings 17. Within each of these thimlbles are ball valves 18, adapted for normally closing the said inlet openings 17 80 of the said thimbles.
Pivotally secured to the actuating arms 19 of each of the pet cocks 14 is the lower yoked end of an operating end 20, this rod extending rearwardly and upwardly and then passed through an opening in the instrument board C of a vehicle body D. In alignment with the opening in said instrument board C is a rod guide 21, it being noted from a consideration of Figure 4, said rod 2O is provided with a head 22.
As clearly shown in Figure 1, the said plate 5 of my atomizer is adapted to be secured between the carburetor outlet and the manifold inlet through the instrumentality of bolt connection 23, and in kview of the above description, it will at once be apparent that when the pet cocks 14 are opened, the suction created in the manifold will effectively raise the ball valves 18 from the openings 17 in the nipples 16 for consequently sucking in a supply of air which will thoroughly mingle with the fuel from the carburetor A for thereby assisting in the vaporization of the fluid.
Although I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention,
what claim es new sind desire te secure by Letters Patent, iS:-
ln a` vaporizer including` e plat adapted for vapplication between a earbur tor outlet and a manifold inlet of an internal coinbustion engine, seid plate being formed with a. relatively enlarged central opening, a pair of bosses formed upon one edge of Said plate and having screw 'threaded openings extending therethrough, a pair of air -tpi within the eeil plate opening; url seizure/i wi ein the seid Ser-ew threaded openings of the bosses, nipples 1ipon said bosses, pet Cocks carried by said nipples1 tliiniblee also Carried by said pet cocks and having air inlet openings` therein, and meetingl for opening and closing said pet cocks.
ln testimony Wnereof afx my Signature.
JOHN THRiLL.
