`CLOTH HOLDER.
Application filed January 19, 1921., Serial No. 438,500.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, Josnr PABsT, a citizen 1 of the Republic of Switzerland, residing at Zurich, in the .Can-ton 0f Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cloth-Holders, of which Vthe following is a specification.
There are clasps' or cloth-holders which are .constructed of a lower and a cover part in the form of frames whereby the cover part when in .closed position'is partially7 overlapped by the lower part.. The present invention is for improvements` in clothliolders of the type mentioned and it .consists of a novel device 'for connecting the `said lower and cover parts. This device comprises a connecting link or plate, one end thereof being hinged to the cover part and -the ,other end being pivotajlly connected with .a bridge-piece forming an integral member of the lower part and projecting upwardly of the main frame thereof. The pivot ofi-.the connectinglink being thus arranged, and the said link allowing a slight sliding movement of the lower and cover parts'when in closed position, these parts cause the cloth or fabric to be tightly gripped without a possibility of such parts becoming .accidentally unlocked.
Several formsof construction in which my invention may be embodied are illustrated in .the accompanying drawings, in which '.rfv`
F ig. 1 show-s a plan View of a holder according ,to `its first construction;
Fig.` 2 isa section through line ATB in Fig.n l.;
F ig. 3 shows a side view of Fig lwith the holder in closed position and as applied to some fabric; l
Fig. 4 `also represents a side view, but with the holder in open position, that is, before gripping .the fabric;
Figs; 5 and 6 s how modifications of a detail;
Fig. 7 shows a plan view of a holder -ae- .cording to a Second construction;
Fig. ,8 illustrates an end view thereof.;
Fig. Qshows la side view of vFig 7 with sthe holder closed ,and Vapplied .to some fabric.
Fig. 10 shows a plan view of .the combination .of .two cloth-holders, and
Fig. 1,1 is a side view' yof Fig.. 1.0 the holder being shown as applied to some fabric.
Similar parts are referred to by like letters or numerals throughout the views.
In the construction 4shown in Figs. 1 to '3, the reference 1 designates the lower, and 2 the cover part of the cloth-holder. Each .of these parts is made of wire land in the form of an oblong frame. The lower part isprovided at `one end with two eyelets 3 and upwardly extending thereof and con.- necting the same is a bridge-piece t. vThis bridge-piece .4 forms a rigid and integral member withl the lower part 1 and projects upwardly7 of the plane .of the main frame of such lower part. Hinged to the eyelets 3 is a clamping member 5 while the central portion of the bridge-piece l has linked to it one end of a plate 6 the other end .of the latter being linked to the corresponding end of the cover part 2. The plate or connecting link 6 is therefore capable of turning about the horizontally disposed portion yof the bridge-piece 4l, the said horizontal portion serving thus as a pivot for the link .6, and being rigidly connected with the lower part 1 and lyingV above its plane. The lower frame '1 is furthermore provided with two inwardly projecting bends 7 which abut against one another and thus form a laterally disposed bridge. The frame 2 is somewhat smaller in width than the width of the inside vof the frame 1 in .order to allow of the rojection through the latter `of the free end) '8 .of thecover part in such a manner that the .end 9 of the lower frame overlaps the .end 8 of the said cover part. The rear end 10 thereof, which is linked to the plate I6, is curved outwardly and the said free yend is shouldered off at 1 1, Figs. 3 and 4l.
If thecloth .or fabric k12, for instance the upper end of stockings or socks, is placed .on the lower frame 1 in the manner shown in'gFig. 4l, and assuming the cover frame to be swung in the direction .of the arrow indicated in suchfigure in .order to take the position `according `to Fig, .3, the fabric `12 will be gripped by and pressed between the bottom fand .cover frame. The fabric is hereby I nade .to follow the undulating form of the cover frame and any superfluous terial .or folds 13 Yof the fabric .may be tucked beneath the carved `por-tion 10.
In this position, namely the locking position, the connecting link 6 is downwardly directed (Fig. 3') and its lower hinge-portion lies above the upper face of the lower sliding movement is unable to causeV the unlocking of the cloth-holder. If the cover part 2 is swung .in a direction opposite to that of the arrow in Fig. 4, a portion of the lowerpart 2 is made to lie on the pivot of the link 6, the part 2 thus representing a double-'armed lever of which theend 9, by
a pressure of the thumb on the shorter arm located behind the bridge-piece 4, vmay be movedaway from the end 8 in order more easily to open the cloth-holder and insert the fabric. This form of construction is particularly suitable as a suspender for ladies stockings in which case provision may also bemade on the Vclamping member 5 of a band or strap adapted to be attached,
forV instance, to the corset.
' As illustrated inl Fig. 5,V the clamping 'member 5a may be formedA with an'extension 14 which device is especiallyV convenient when the cloth-holder is vintended for use with mens socks. In such case the holder,
' by means of the said extension, may easily be secured to the pants. By way of alternativeand as shown in Fig. '6, the `clamping member V5b may also be fashioned into a suspension hook 15.
" Referring to the lconstruction of holder shown in Figs.. .f to 9, the lower frame 1n is provided atV either sidevwith oppositely disposed integral shoulders 17 projecting inf wardly of the frame, while the middle portions* of the said bend 18, designated by 19 tion of the sides of the cover part is bent downwardly at 18 whereas the adjacent porand'20Y respectively, are curved upwardly, the curves 2O moreover being obliquely arranged in relation tothe sides of the frames. In this way the fabric is Vfirmly gripped by a series of'undulatingvmembers ofthe cover part; The lower frame 1f forms an integral part with the clamping member 5c and is constructed of a single piece of wire of which the two ends are fashioned into eyelets S vengaging with the'vertically disposed members 4a'of the bridge-piece of the clamping member.
In the last construction illustrated in Figs. 10 and 11, the two combined lower frames 1d and 1e are linked to each other by a ring 23 and eyelets 3b and 3c' formed, respectively, on the neighboring ends of the said lower `frames. This form of'construction combining two holders enables the .fabric 12d of pants or a hose to be securedV by the aid of one-ofthe holders, at the same time rendering 1t possible similarly to secure the end 12c of stockings or socks. Here too, the portions 2d and 2e of the cover frames arey overlapped by the corresponding parts of the Vlower frames thus being adapted to grip the fabric placed between the pairs of frames very firmly. In this modiiicationthe members of the cover frame adjacent to Vtheeyelets 3b and 3, instead of being upwardly curved, are straight. Y Having now fully; described my said invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a cloth-holder, the combination, of
a lower and a cover part the lower part yin the form of an oblong frame, the said lower part at one end being formed with an integral bridge-piece which projects upwardly of the plane of the'lower frame and the cover part when in closed position being partially overlapped by the lower part, and a connecting link of which one end is hinged to the cover part and the other end pivotally connected with the aforesaid bridge-piece.
2. In a cloth-holder, the combination, of a lower anda cover part the lowerpart in the Vform of an oblong frame, the said lower part at one end being formed with an integral bridge-piece which projects upwardly of the lplane of.` the lower frameq and thev cover part when in closed position being partially overlapped by the lower partfand a connecting link of which one end is hinged to the cover part and the other end lpivotally connected Vwith the bridge-piece, the said link in closed position extending downwardly at an angle to the plane of the lower frame and its lower hinge-portion lying above the upper face of the said `lower frame.
3. In a cloth-holder, the combination, of a lower part inthe form of an oblong'frame constructed of a single wire bent at one end and at each side thereofV into an eyelet, the wire at the side of said eyelets projecting Vupwardly of the plane of the oblong frame and forming with ythe eyelets a bridge-piece,
a connecting linkhinged at one end tothe bridge-piece, anda cover part in the shape of an oblong frame made of a' single wire hinged to the other end of the said connecting link. y A 'f 4. In a cloth-holder, the combination, with a lower part in the, form .ofV an oblong wire frame having at one end and-'between the sides thereof'at least one'bend extending towards the centre of the frame, of a cover part in the shapeV of lanoblong wire- Vframe provided between its two ends with at least one bend which in closed position my hand in the presence of two subscribing lies opposite and near the rst bend, and a wwf'itnesses. link connecting the lower and cover pai-ts and at one end being pivoted to the lower 5 part at a point situated above the plane Witnesses:
thereof. O. M. AURIG.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set AUGUST KEGG.
