GAS-HEATED-SADIBON CONNECTION.

To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, OLIVER W. SABoLD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boyertown, in the county of Berks, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Gas-Heated-Sadiron Connection, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in gas-heated sad irons, and consists of novel means for coupling the gas supplying tube with the gas, and air mixing conveyers of the body of the iron.
It consists also of novel means for uniting the flexible gas supplying tube with the 1 members adjacent to the gas and air mixing conveyer.
It consists also of details of construction as will be hereinafter described and made the subject of the claims.
The invention is satisfactorily illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, as long as they are included in the scope of the claims.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a gas-heated sad iron and attachments embodying my invention.

Referring to the drawings.
1 designates the body of a gas-heated sad iron of desirable construction. 2 designates a conductor for the mixed gas and air that is directed into said body and is connected with a wall thereof as usual in such cases; said conductor having secured to it, the tube 3 which is provided with the air inlet vents 1 and contains the gas discharging pipe 5, which latter is in communication with the flexible gas supplyingtube 6 in a manner as will be hereinafter more fully described, the
tube 3 serving to have gas and air mixed therein.
. In the tube 3' atthe end opposite to the vents 4 is the collar 7 which is secured thereto by the screw 8, the same having therethrough in the longitudinal direction of the tube the passage 9. On the exterior of the pipe 5 is the laterally projecting stud 10 which is adapted to be moved entirely through said passage which latter is continued between the shoulders 18 on the forward end of said collar. Then the pipe is turned when said stud bears against the collar 7 and is seated against either shoulder 18.
In order to hold said stud in its engagement with the collar 7 there is placed on the pipe 5 in the tube 3 the washer 12 which rests against the shoulder 11 on said pipe 5 which washer is pressed by the spring 13, the latter being located within the tube 3 and seated in front against the corresponding wall of the tube 3 so as to force by its compression the pipe 5 and consequently the stud 10 in the direction towards the collar 7 all as most plainly shown in Figure 2.
When it is desired to uncouple the pipe 5 from the tube 3, said pipe is rotated until the stud 10 registers with the passage 9 when the spring 13 owing to its compressed condition will press the pipe 5 and so force said stud outwardly through said passage, thereby disconnecting said pipe from the tube 3.
The pipe 5 is screwed into the collar 14 which latter is screwed on the nipple 15 which is continuous of said pipe, said nipple being surrounded by a portion of the flexible tube 6 which portion is incased by the rigid sleeve 16 which is formed of hard rubber or other suitable material and is secured to the said collar 14 by the screwcarbonization or other matter clogging the;

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent, is
1. In a gas heated sad iron, a tube, a slidable gas discharging pipe therein, a collar on the interior of said tube having in its wall a longitudinally extending passage, a laterally projecting stud on the exterior of said pipe adapted to be moved entirely through said passage, the forward end of said collar having shoulders between which said passage is continued, and a washer on said pipe within the tube, the pipe having a shoulder against which said washer is spring pressed,
said pipe being rotatably mounted and said stud engageable behind one or the other of the shoulders of said collar.
2. In a gas heated sadiron, a tube, a slid able gas discharging pipe therein, a collar on the interior of said tube having in its wall a longitudinally extending passage, la laterally projecting stud on the exterior of said pipe adapted to be moved entirely through said passage, the forward end of said collar having shoulders betweenwhich said passage is continued, a washer on said pipe within the tube, the pipe having a shoulder against which said washer is spring pressed, said pipe being rotatably mounted and said stud engageable behind one or the other of the shoulders of said collar, a perforated tip in the outer end of said pipe, and a tip.
