Description

atentsd Dec. 11, 1923,
PATENT @FFBLQE.
CHARLES .DE TALL-TONI), OF NEW] YORK, N. Y.
LINK.
Application filed February 7, 1923.
T 0 oil whom it may concern.
Be it knownthat 1, CHARLES DE TALMoNo, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Links, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to links and more particularly to a novel and improved sectional link which is adapted to be separated by lateral pressure and avoiding the objec tion of causing the said links to be disconnected when a pull is exerted on the cuff for instance of a shirt.
The primary object of my invention is the provision of a pair of complementary annular heads or buttons including provision whereby said members may be connected together by sliding one member across the other as distinguished from those constructions wherein the respective buttons are pressed together and toward each other, now in common use.
One of the objects of my invention is the provision of a link wherein one member is provided with a gripping means and. the second member with a tongue insertable between said gripping means including positive provision for preventing the separation of the respective members from each other by a pull or strain.
1 accomplish the above objects and others which will be more readily understood when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, showing a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein,
Figure 1 is a side view partly in section showing the cooperating buttons.
Figure 2 is a sectional view showing the cooperating members in their locked position.
Figure 3 is a similar view and showing the tongue inserted from the opposite side.
Figure 4 is a perspective View showing the buttons disconnected.
*igure 5 is a bottom plan of one of the buttons, and
Figure 6 is a bottom plan of the complementary button.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the button is formed of two parts wherein the heads 5, 6, are preferably integral with Serial No. 617,597.
the shank 7, 8, said heads being made to present an ornamental appearance, if desired, in the manner well understood. The shank 7 is provided with an annular disk 9 of a diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the head 5 and connected to said disk, I have provided a substantially L- shaped tongue 10, which tapers toward its center 11 and terminates in a triangular end 12 as clearly shown by Figure2 of the drawing and for a purpose presently to appear.
The shank 8 is also provided with an annular plate 13 substantially ofthe same diameter as the plate 9, said plate 13 being provided with segmental opposed slots 14, 15, to permit the passage of the tongue from either side. The plate 13 is somewhat thicker than the disk 9, so as to receive a pair of looped springs 16, 17, the respective ends of the springs being cemented orsecured as indicated at 18, adjacent the opening 15. It will be noted that the outer side of the springs 16,.17, are shaped to con form with the plate 13 and the free ends 19 of said springs are curved so as to be disposed toward each other and substantially in a central position within the body of the plate 13 above referred to. The extreme free ends 20 of the springs are bowed slightly outwardly so as to permit the passage of the tongue 10 when the same is inserted through the recess or slot 15. In addition it will also be observed that the tongue 10 is slightly curved throughout its length so as to provide a frictional grip when the respective sections are connected as above indicated.
By reason of this construction the respective sections of the button as a unit, are capable of attachment, that is to say, either section may be moved laterally with respect to the other from either side when it is desired to lock the same and in the same manner, a slight lateral pressure, by the fingers,
of one section will release the same from the other, for the purpose well understood.
While T have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or other wise altering the arrangement of the cor- "I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:- 1. A fastener comprising tWo complej mentary members each member having an outer face and a shank, a tongue extendlng across the shank of one of the members and means carried by the second member for receiving andlocking the tongue from either side. I
2. A fastener comprising two complementary members, each member having an outer face and a shank, a tongue formed on one of the members and disposed atright angles to its shank, the second member havingopposed slots for receiving the tongue and resilientgripping means for engaging the tongue when the latter is inserted through either of the slots.
3. A fastener comprising tWo complementary members, each member having an outer face and a shank, a curved tongue formed on one of said members and disposed at right angles to the shank and face, a disk having opposed slots in the second member and opposed gripping elements carried by the disk to engage and lock the said tongue when inserted through either of the said slots.
4. A fastener comprising two complecmentary members, each member having an outer face and a shank, a plate having a tongue formed therewith on the shank of one of the members, a disk carried by the shank of the second member, said disk havthe latter is inserted through either of the slots. .c
5.'A fastener comprising two com-plementary members, each .member having an outer face and a shank, a plate having" a slightly curved tongue formed .ther ew ith extending across the'slhank of one of the members, said tongue having atapered end, a disk carried by the shank of the second member, said disk having opposed, segmental slots to permit the passage of the tongue, resilient, curved springs secured Within the said disk and lying icontiguous the periphery thereof to engage and grip the sides of the tongue When the latter is inserted through either of the slots.
