GARBAGE-RECEPTACLE STAND.

To all whom it mayconoem Be it known that I, THEODORE W. l VAT- soN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Phoenix, in the county of Marieopa and State of Arizona, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garbage-Becep-tacle Stands, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to holders or supports for receptacles, for instance, receptacles for garbage cans and like purposes, and has for one of its objects to improve the con struction and increase the efliciency and utility of devices of this character.

Another object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, including a supporting frame having means. whereby the cover of a receptacle which supported in the frame is maintained in position above the receptacle to permit the latter'to be tilted forwardly or removed from the supporting frame without removing the closure from the frame.

lVith these and other objects in view, the

invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim, and in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the inven tion.

The improved device comprises an annular lower or base member 10 attached as at 11 to vertical side portions or

standards

12 and 18, each preferably constructed of L metal with their confronting edges in spaced relation to form vertical guideways as shown in Fig. 2. One web of each of the members 13 is provided with a laterally directed recess, one of which is shown at 14.

member 10 is a transverse support 16, and likewise attached by its upturned ends at 17 to the member 10 is another transverse member v18 at right angles to the member 16, the two transverse members being riveted together where they cross as shown at 19.

The transverse member 16 is bent downwardly at its front end as shown at 20, to form a step to support the front of the frame and likewise to form a cavity into which the forward edge of the receptacle 21 enters when tilted forwardly, as here after explained.

Attached by the rivet 15 at the rear side of the member 10 and the upturned rear end of the transverse member 16, is another standard 22, the latter inclined rearwardly, as shown in Fig. 1.

Extending inwardly from the rear stand ard 22 is a-stop pin 24.

The receptacle is represented as a whole at 21 with a detachable closure or cover 26 having a downwardly directed rim 27.

Attached to the closure 26 is a handle 28 having laterally directed portions 29 extending through the guideways between the

12 and 13. The extensions 29 are each provided with notches 30 in their side edges to receive the confronting edges of the webs of the

members

12 and 13 to prevent lateral displacement of the clo sure 26.

When it is desired to place material in the receptacle, or to discharge the contents of the same, the cover 26 is elevated bodily until the narrow section of the extensions 29 between the notches 30 is opposite recesses 14, when the closure will be moved rearwardly to enter the narrow portions in the recess and the depending rim 27 above the stop pin 24, the recesses 14, extension 29 and pin 24, thus coacting to support the cover in horizontal position and spaced above the upper open top of the receptacle, as shown by dotted lines in Figure 1.

The ends. of the strap 32 extend beyond the closure and areprovided with lateral notches 34 to enter the seats 14, the strap and its notches'thus perform ing the same function as the extensions 29 and notches shown in Figs. 1 and 2.

16 and 18, inwardly extending L- shaped supports 36, attached to the inner faces of the annular member 10 to support the receptacle 21.

The modifications do not constitute a departure from the principle of the invention. The preferred embodiment of the invention is disclosed in the drawings and set forth in the specifications, but it will be understood that modifications within the scope of the claimed invention may be made in the construction without departing from the principle of the invention or sacrificing any of itsadvantages. Havingthus described'the invention, what is claimed as new is V A device of the class described comprising a base formed of van annular member and transverse connecting members, one of said transverse members being depressed adjacent the front of the annular member, vertical side members and avertical rear-member rising from the base, said side members having longitudinally directed guideways with lateral recesses near the upper ends and said rear member having an inwardly directed stop, a receptacle adapted to bear on the transverse base members and extend ing over said depression and entering the same when the receptacle is tilted forwardly, a closure for the receptacle having laterally directed projections movably en-' gaging said guideways, said projections adapted to enter said guideway recesses to dispose the cover in position to engage the stop and be supported thereby spaced above the receptacle, and permitting the same to" be tilted for removal from the base "without separating the closure from the'support.
