Description
Aug. 13, 1957 R. R. HAZLETT PORTABLE TRASH AND GARBAGE CAN HOLDER Filed March 31, 1955 IN VEN TOR.
ATTORNEYS Unitd States Patent M Petershurg, Va.
This invention relates to a garbage or trash can holder.
The object of the invention is to provide a portable holder for garbage or trash cans whereby such cans can be readily moved from place to place as desired.
Another object of the invention is to provide a portable trash or garbage can holder which is constructed so that a garbage can will not overturn and whereby the garbage can can be readily moved from place to place as desired and whereby the garbage can lid or top will not become damaged or bent.
A further object of the invention is to provide a portable trash and garbage can holder which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.
Gther objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like parts throughout the same:
i i ure 1 is a side elevational view of the holder with a garbage can mounted thereon.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, there is shown a frame which includes a pair of horizontally disposed spaced parallel arms 10 which each have their front ends terminating in downwardly extending portions that define legs 11, Figure 1. Extending inwardly from the rear ends of the arms 10 are braces 12, and secured below the pair of braces 12 is a horizontally disposed axle 14. The axle 14 may be secured to the braces 12 in any suitable manner, as for example by means of bolt and nut assemblies 15. A pair of wheels 16 are journaled on the ends of the axle 14 whereby the device can be readily moved from place to place as desired. 50
Extending upwardly from the braces 12 are handle members 17, Figure 3, and the upper end of each of the handle members 17 terminates in an outwardly extending hand grip 13. The numeral .19 designates a trash can or garbage can which is to be supported or handled, and the garbage can 19 includes handles 20, there being a lid 21 mounted on the garbage can 19, and the lid 21 being also provided with a handle. 22.
An offset plate 23 is secured to the handle members 17 in any suitable manner, as for example by means of 0 bolt and nut assemblies 24, and the oilset plate 23 is adapted to engage one of the handles of the garbage can whereby the garbage can will be suspended as shown in Figure 1. A plate 25 is secured to the upper portion of the handles 17, Figure 3, and a chain extends from the plate 25, the chain 26 being provided with a hook 27 which is adapted to engage the handle 22 on the lid 21.
There is further provided a bracket which is indi- 7 cated generally by the numeral 28, and the bracket 28 includes a pair of angularly arranged portions 29 which 2,802,673 Patented Aug. 13, 1957 have their rear ends shaped to form an arcuate portion 39 that is secured to the handles 17 by suitable bolt and nut assemblies 31. The angularly arranged portions 29 have their front ends terminating in downwardly extending sections 32 which are secured to the arms 11) in any suitable manner, as for example by means of bolt and nut assemblies 33.
From the foregoing it is apparent that there has been provided a portable trash or garbage can holder and in use the garbage can 19 can be suspended as shown in Figure 1 so that one of its handles 20 are arranged in engagement with the ofiset portion of the plate 23. At the same time, the chain 26 can be extended through the handle 22 of the lid 21, and the hook 27 can be connected to another portion of the chain 26 whereby the lid 21 will not be accidentally lost. Then, the user can grip the hand grips 1S and tilt the device so that the legs 11 are up out of engagement with the ground. Thus, the wheels 16 permit the garbage can and holder to be moved to any desired location. The V-shaped portions 29 of the bracket 28 help guide the can 19 and maintain it in its proper position so that the can 19 will not move around as it is being moved from place to place. The legs 11 provide a convenient support as shown in Figure 1 when the garbage can is not being moved.
Since the can 19 is suspended by means of the offset plate 23, the garbage collectors will be able to perform their tasks more easily since it is not necessary to unfasten anything when the can is being removed. Also, the can is less liable to be overturned by dogs and the like and the entire device is very maneuverable and is attractive in appearance Since the device is portable, the can can be moved readily to the point where the garbage is to be collected and the can top 21 will not get bent or damaged or lost. The frame can be made of any suitable material such as tubular or solid metal stock.
I claim:
A portable trash andgarbage can holder, comprising a frame embodying a pair of horizontally disposed spaced parallel arms, a pair of spaced parallel vertically disposed legs depending from the front ends of said arms, said legs providing a support when the garbage can is not being moved, braces extending inwardly from the rear ends of said arms, a horizontally disposed axle secured below said pair of braces, wheels journaled on said axle whereby the device can be readily moved from place to place, a pair of handles extending upwardly from said braces, the upper ends of said handles terminating in outwardly extending hand grips, a bracket including a substantially V-shaped portion having its apex secured to said handles, the V-shaped portions of the bracket helping to guide the can and maintaining it in proper position so that the can will not move around as it is being moved from place to place, said bracket including a pair of angularly arranged portions having their front ends terminating in downwardly extending sections secured to said arms, and a plate having an offset portion secured to said handles for engagement with a handle of a can whereby the garbage can will be suspended.
