1 DEVICE FOR THE DISPLAY OF BO'I'I'LES The present invention relates to a device for the display of bottles, particularly but not exclusively for the display of bottles of sparkling wine.
Devices employed for the. display of bottles must serve to enhance the visual presentation of the bottles. Many such devices are known but they .vary in their effectiveness as regards the protection they afford and the security with which they are connected to the bottle. This latter point has its importance since it is generally desirable to ensure a measure of robustness in the device with its bottle if the display is to withstand some degree of misuse: It is also desirable, although it is often not achieved, to arrange that the display device is such as to have some thematic affinity with the contents of the displayed product.
It is an object of the invention to provide a display device that can support a bottle in a firm and secure manner.
It is a further object of the invention to provide a display device that can enhance the presentation of bottles of wine, especially sparkling wine.
According to the invention there is provided a display device for a bottle and comprising a base having means for centering and supporting the bottle thereupon, laterally opposed columns extending upwardly from the base to be connected at their upper regions by a cross member, a threaded orifice in said member carrying a threaded spindle projecting downwardly and provided with seating means at its lower end able to bear on the top of the bottle, a collar connected to the cross member by suspension elements and elements engaged with longitudinally extending grooves in the columns, said collar being arranged to engage the bottle above its main body portion, said grooves having angled open entry having laterally projecting elements for the introduction of the collar elements thereto.
For a better understanding of the invention, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate, purely by way of example, one embodiment of a device according to the invention. In the drawings;
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the device, without a bottle, and
FIG. 2 is a sectional elevation of the device, an inserted bottle being shown in broken lines.
Referring to the drawings, the device comprises a pedestal 1 forming a base and on which is disposed a disc 2. upon whicha bottle can be placed, a circular protuberance 3 in the center of the device forming a means for centering the bottle by location in the punt of the bottle. A peripheral groove in the top surface of the disc 2 leads to a front spout or lip 4.
From the pedestal 1 two columns 5 extend upwardly and are joined at their upper ends by a cross-beam 6 with the aid of bracing ties 7 and straps 8.--The crossbeam has a central tapped orifice 9 in which-is screwed a screw-threaded spindle 10 to project vertically downwards, there being non-rotatably fixed to its lower end a bearer disc 11 formed with radial orifices 12.
From the cross-beam 6 depend two chains 13 from which is suspendeda collar 14 that has lateral projections forming two shoulders 15 that are guided'in associated longitudinal grooves 16 in the columns 5. Angled extensions 17 open to the front faces of the columns at the upper ends of the grooves 16.
The disc 2 has provided over its rear half a wall 18 so arranged as to give a semi-circular grid or planked effect. The wall lies inside the peripheral groove leading to the spout 4.
Near one of the columns is detachably secured a rod 19 engaged at its lower end by a ring 20 and at its upper end by a hook 21.
In its entirety, the device described simulates in certain respects a manual grape press of extremely rustic yp A bottle 22 placed on the disc 2 is held there centrally by the protuberance 3. The collar 14, initially dis engaged from the grooves 16, is placed over the neck of the bottle, whereupon the shoulders are repositioned in the grooves, being introduced thereto through the open ends 17. Then, the disc 11 is lowered by turning the spindle 10, until it bears on the bottle top or cork, thereby clamping the bottle firmly in place.
Those features of the construction which simulate the antique grape press provide a particularly appropriate adornment for the display of wines, especially sparkling wines. It can also be arranged that the rod 19 may be utilized for rotating the disc 11, the smaller end of the rod being introduced into any of the orifices 12 for this purpose.
In addition to this, however, the device is able to ensure that the bottle is securely held due to the pressure of the disc 11 and the action of the collar 14, it being impossible for the device to be detached or loosened from the bottle without having previously raised the disc 11 and disengaged the collar 14. At the same time, the bottle label will not be obscured due to the open front presented by the semi-circular wall 18.
It will be appreciated that the materials employed in the construction of the various elementsof which the device is comprised, the shape and dimensions thereof and any such accessory details as may be involved, may be varied as desired within the scope and spirit of the invention.
What 1 claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent Is 1.
