Description

WITNESSES: INVENTUB UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
IlOSEA VILLARD, OF VERGENNES, VERMOXT.
IMPROVEMENT IN CATTLE-STANCHIONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,727. dated February 17, 1h74 application .Filed December 29, 1873.
To all who-m it may concern:
Be it known that I, HosenL W1LLARD,ot
e Vergennes, in the eonntvof Addison and State of Vermont, have invented a new and useful Improvement in CattleStanehions, of which the followin g is a specification:
The invention will first be fully described, and then pointed outin the claim.
Figure l is an elevation with parts broken away to show the construction; and Fig. 2 is a horizontal section, looking down from the line x .r ot Fig. l. l
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the upper, and B the lower, horizontal timbers, or cap and sill, 0fthe stanchions. C' is the revolving` frame, consisting of two stanchions, I) and E, connected together by the horizontal pieces F and G. Il H are pivot-pins, the former of which passes down through the cap-piece A and into the center ot' the top piece F of the revolving frame. The pivot-pin Il passes through the ,center of the lower cross-"piece G and enters the sill B. The stanchion l) of the frame C is movable in the slot I, so as to admit the head of the animal, and this stanchion is longer than the stanchion E, so that it ma;T be slipped into slots J J in the cap A to make the frame l fast, when it is desired tohave it fast, or
when the animal is vput in or taken from the frame. At other times the frame is allowed to revolve in either direction, according to the posit-ion of the animal. To allow this projecting end of the stanchion D to pass the cap A cross-gains M lll are cut in the under side ot' the cap A. The stanchions K K, at the sides ot' the frame, are movable in the slots L L, as seen in the drawing, so that a pail of water may be passed through from the stable.
I am aware that revolving stanehion-frames have been made before; but I am not aware that thegT have heretofore been so constructed and pivoted that they will allow perfect freedom to the animal, and so that they may be made stationary or fastened in the manner I have described.
Having, thus described n1 y invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1 Apivotedrcvolving frame, C, having stanchion D longer than stanchion E, and having slot I, combined with a cap, A, having slots J J, and with the sill B, to allow it tobe fastened in the manner described.
