Description

Patented Dec. 1l, 1923.
UNITED STATES PATENToFFlcE.
EMIL F. LEWIS FRITZ, 0F CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
CLOTHESPIN.
Application led November 23, 1922. Serial No. 802,847.
To all whom it 'may concern:
BB it knOWll that I, EMIL F. LEWIS FRITZ, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the citv of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Iliinois, have invented certain new and useful Im rovements in Clothespins, of which the ollowing i's a speciiication.
improvements in clothes pms, and has for its principal object the rovision of an improved Construction o this character which will be simple in structure and economica in manufacture.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangementsof parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, and in which, A
Fig. 1, is an elevational view of a clothes pin embodying the invention;
Fig. 2, is a sectional view taken substantially on line 2-2 of Fig. 1, and
Flg. 3, is a sectional view taken substantially on 'tine 3 3 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing showing the preferred form of construction 10 indicates a clothes pin which in this instance is made from a suitable mold and of such material that will ermit .bending at' the bightvll thereof. IPhe clothes pin comprises an enlarged head 11 having a circular opening 12 adapted to receive the clothes line and the adjacent portion of the article on the clothes line, and leg portions 12 having rounded outer surfaces as at 13 tapered inwardly and downwardly toward the extremities of the legs 12, and inner adjacent flat surfaces as at 14. The head portion 11 diminishes in thickness from the point of juncture with the leg portions 12 to a point opposite the entrance 13 to the opening 12. he purpose of this construction is to permit divergmg movement of the leg portions without rupturing the bight of the clothes pin. The extremities of the legs 12 are slightly fiexed upwardly as at 15 to form a mouth 16 to facilitate mounting the clothes pin to embrace the clothes line and the articles thereon. The object of tapering le 12 as herein stated is to reinforce the clot es pin at its weakest My invention relates to new and useful point which is tion 12.
By the construction herein set forth it will be seen that I provide a clothes pinwhich will be'simp`e in structure, economical in manufacture and durable in use, having the properties of expansion, -to permit mounting, when in use.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into efect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from' the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise detailsofconstruction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such -variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.
Havlng described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Pat-ent:
1. A clothes pin of the class described comprising leg portions joined together at one end by an enlarged head having a central opening and an entrance 1eadin to the just below the mouth por- Aopening, said head portion diminis ing in thickness from the point of juncture with the leg portions to a point opposite the entrance of the opening.
2. Aclothes pin of the class described including leg portions having rounded outer surfaces and flat inner surfaces and joined together at one end by an enlarged head, said head portion dimlnishing in -thickness from the point of juncture with the leg portions to a point opposite the point of juncture.
3. A clothes pin of the class described including parallel leg portions having their outer surfaces tapered inwardl and round* ed in cross section and having at inner surfaces and joined together at one end by an enarged head portion having a central opening, said head portion diminishing in thickness toward the bight of the clothes 1n. p In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
E. F. LEWIS FRITZ.
