(Cl. 211-89) The present invention relates generally to garment hangers and more particularly to a garment hanger for trousers, skirts and the like.

The primary object of this invention is to provide a garment hanger having a plurality of return folded resilient clip elements each of which is simply constructed from a single section of half-round material.

Another object of this invention is to provide a garment hanger in which the clips are removably and easily inserted in individual sockets in a supporting block, the garment being easily located in the clip before the clip is placed in the block.

Another object of this invention is to provide a garment hanger in which the clips are pivoted to allow access to the garment.

Still another object is to provide special means in a garment hanger to prevent undue creasing of the garments.

Another object of this invention is to provide a garment hanger which is adapted for fabrication from many different materials, so that the choice of material can be according to the dictates of availability and price considerations, the exact sizes and proportions being matters easily determined to suit particular conditions and needs.

Another object of this invention is to provide a garment hanger which is inexpensive and practicable to manufacture.

Finally, it is an object to provide a garment hanger of the aforementioned character which is simple, safe and convenient to use, and which will give generally efficient and durable service.

With these and other objects definitely in view, this invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of elements and portions, as will be hereinafter fully described in the specification, particularly pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the drawing which forms a material part of this disclosure and wherein similar characters of reference indicate similar or identical elements and portions throughout the specification and throughout the views of the drawing, and in which:

Referring now to the drawing, the garment hanger comprises a mounting block in which are fitted a plurality of resilient clips 12.

The block 10 is of generally rectangular shape and is provided with a plurality of sockets 14 in the upper surface thereof. The block will be fastened to a suitable support, such as the Wall 16, by means of screws 18.

Each of the clips 12 comprises a return folded loop 20 of substantially half-round material such as metal or plastic covered metal, the flat faces 22 of the material being on the inside of the fold. The ends of the loops 20 are turned at right angles to provide plugs 24 which fit into the sockets 14. It will be seen that the adjacent portions of the half round material comprising the plugs 24 form substantially round rod like elements so that the clips may pivot freely in the sockets 14. In order to improve the holding qualities of the clips for heavy trousers or similar garments, and to prevent undue creasing of the garments, each clip may be fitted with removable plates 30 as illustrated in Fig. 1. These plates 34) are folded at their upper edges 32 to fit around the curved face of the clips 12 and extend slightly more than half way around the clip element, as shown in Fig. 5, so that the plates may be snapped into place and held by the resiliency of the folded edges. The additional width of the plates 30 prevents the relatively narrow clips form causing depression in the garments.

To secure a garment in the hanger, one of the clips 12 is removed from its socket, the resiliency of the clip causing the loop 20 to open as shown in Fig. 4. The garment is placed in the bight of the loop which is then closed, the plug 24 being inserted in its socket 14 to secure the clip. The garment is thus held securely in the clip, the outward pressure on the two portions of the plug 24 tending to hold the plug more firmly in the socket.

The device is particularly suited for hanging trousers and skirts as shown fragmentarily at 28 in Fig. 1. Other garments may also be held in the clips, the construction of the device being adapted for manufacture in many sizes to suit specific needs.

The operation of this invention will be clearly cornprehended from a consideration of the foregoing description of the mechanical details thereof, taken in connection with the drawing and the above recited objects. It will be obvious that all said objects are amply achieved by thisinvention.

Further description would appear to be unnecessary.

It is understood that minor variation from the form of the invention disclosed herein may be made without departure from the spirit and scope of the invention and that the specification and drawing are to be considered as merely illustrative rather than limiting.

I claim:

1. A garment hanger comprising a resilient clip, said clip constituting a return folded loop having adjacent parallel bar portions, said bar portions being substantially half round in cross section with a flat face and a curved face, the flat faces of the bar portions being in confronting relation, the ends of said bar portions being similarly angularly disposed with reference to the remaining portions of the clip, said ends of the loop together forming a generally cylindrical plug-like element with each of said ends constituting one-half of said element, and supporting means having an individual socket to receive said element, whereby said ends are held together in the socket to constitute a pivot pin for the clip.

2. A garment hanger according to claim 1 wherein said clip has secured thereon a pair of removable plates, said plates having arcuate, resilient portions shaped to snap onto and to fit around said bar portions and extending slightly more than half way around said curved face, and garment-contacting portions substantially c0- extensive in length with said resilient portions and depending between said bar portions, said plates being separable from each other along with the corresponding bar portions to admit a garment therebetween.
