PROCESS FOR PERMANENT EMBOSSMENT OF CLOTH OF ANIMAL FIBER.

T all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HATOHIRO FUNASAKA,
a subject of the Emperor of Japan, residing at No. 13, Sho-goin Higashi-machi, Kamikyo- 6 kn, Kyoto, Japan, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Process for Permanent Embossment of Cloth of Animal Fiber, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a process of per manent embossment of cloth made of animal fiber. Heretofore, cloth was embossed by means of an embossing calender or any such device, but the embossed design on the cloth would disappear in course of subsequent treatment, that is to say, washing or stretching. This diificulty is especially pronounced in cloth made of animal fiber. It may, however, be successfully overcome by my invention.
My invented process consists of treating cloth of animal fiber, on which a required design is to be embossed, with a solution of sulphocyanate, and embossing it with a heated calender. To describe further, the cloth is first soaked in a vessel containing a solution of soluble sulphocyanate, for example, sulphocyanate of potash (Baum 20 to and, next, the cloth is wrung, then. it is 30 pressed by means of a heated embossing calender having engraved thereon the required design. Then the cloth is washed with water, and finally it is dried.
By treating cloth with a solution of sul- .phocyanate, animal fiber is slightly aiiected and becomes easy to be embossed. When thus treated the cloth is pressed with a heated calender, the fiber of the cloth curls in several grades in accordance with the diiference of pressure and that of heating due to the engraving on the surface of the calender, and produces a distinct design on the cloth.

What I claim is 1. The process of embossing cloth made of animal fiber, which consists in treating the cloth with a solution of sulphocyanate of potash, and then subjecting the cloth under pressure to the action of a heated member having the required design engraved thereon.
2. The process of embossing cloth made of animal fiber, which consists in treating the cloth with a solution of sulphocyanate of potash of 20 to 30 Baum, and then subjecting the cloth under pressure to the action of a heated calender having the required design engraved thereon.
3. The process of embossing cloth made of animal fiber, which consists in treating the cloth with a solution of sulphocyanate of potash, applying to the cloth a protecting layer of material, and subjecting the cloth under pressure to the action of a heated calender having the required design engraved thereon.
