To all whom it may concern V 7 Be it known that I, JOHN A. KAYE, a: sub ject'of the King of Great Britain, residing at Sault Ste. Marie, in the Province of Qn tario and Dominion of Canada, have 1n-- vented certain new and useful Imp-rover ments in Package Ties, of which the following is a specification i The present invention'relatesto a package tie of that general character which in eludes a string and means for securing the ends of the string without knotting'or mutilating the .same, so that the string can be used repeatedlyffor the purpose of fastenin'g packages. V7here it is possible to use a device of this kind the expense of providinga new length of string for each package to be fastenedis avoided and the economy thus inaderpossible may in many instances be considerable. V

:Among the objects of the invention is to provide a package tie which is compara i tively simple and inexpensive in its construction, which can be readily utilizedvfor securing bundles of letters or the like, which plicationof the package tie and enabl'inglarge numbers of packages to be secured in a minimum amount of time. v

With the above and other ob]ects 1n view, 'the invention consists n certain combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in therappended claims.

The string fastening device includesa disc I or base plate 2 which is provided uponithe bottom thereof with a vacuum cup member 3, and uponthetop'thereo-fwith a clamping device which'i adapted toengage and grip the-endsof the string after the string has been drawn tightly around the package.
