Description

Dec. 4 1923.
L. A. MEAD PEDAL EXTENSION ATTACHMENT Filed Feb. 9. 1922 gwozwfoz Leslie A./1ead.
Patented Bee. 4-, 1923.
" 5 LESLIE A. MEAD, or Hermann, 'CALTFORNIAMr PEDAL-EXTENSION ATTACHMENT.
Application filed February 9, 1922. Serial No. 535,324.
To all whom it may concern: 1
Be it known that I, LESLIE -A.. MEAD, a citizen of the United States, residing-at Hayward, in the county of Alameda and State of California,have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pedal- Extension Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a pedal extension attachment, particularly adapted to be attached to the vacuum operating pedal of a clothes pressing machine to bring said pedal up to the level of the main foot pedal of said machine, so that the operator .willrnot have to lower his foot from the main pedal to the vacuum operating pedal in the operation of the machine.
Referring to the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated and which forms a part of this specification:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of a clothes pressing machine.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my pedal extension attachment showing in dotted lines the relative position of the main pedal and the vacuum operating pedal of the pressing machine and the manner in which my pedal extension attachment is attached to said vacuum operating pedal.
In Figure 1 of the drawing-is shown a clothes pressing machine which consists essentially of a frame 1, a table 2, a presser 3 comprising lower presser head 4 and upper presser head 5, a steam tank 6., a vacuum condenser tank 7, a main ,foot pedal 8 used for lowering the upper presser head, a head steam valve 9 for projecting live hot steam in large quantities directly from the presser heads into the nap of the cloth, a vacuum operating pedal 10 for causing a strong current of air to be drawn through the garment in the to be dried instant y, and a kick-off pedal 11 used to unlock the upper presser head and cause it to fly back into an upright position after the pressing is completed.
My pedal extension attachment comprises an angular member 12, a standard 13, a
pedal member 14 and clamps 15 and 16. The member 12 is bent at right angles about 1 midway between its ends, forming a vertical standard 17 and a horizontal arm 18 extending forwardly from the upper end of resser and the garment said standard. 7 The standard '13 is bent forwardly at right angles at its upper end into a flange 19 which is secured to the un der side of arm 18 near the forward end of said arm by a rivet 20." The pedal member 14 is formed on the forward end of the horizontal arm 18. The clamp 15 comprises a bar 21 and a'pair of jaws 22 and 28 formed on said bar and on the lower end of the standard 17 respectively, which bar is secured to the standard 17 by screws 24 and'25 respectively above and below said jaws, which screws clamp the jaws 22 and 23 on the. vacuum operating pedal 10. The
clamp 16 comprises a bar 26 and a pair of aws 27 and 28 formed. on said bar and on the lower end of the standard 13 re pectively, which bar is secured to the standard 13 by screws 29 and 30 respectively above and below said'jaws, which screws clamp the jaws 27 and 28 upon thevacuum operating pedal 10 forwardly of the standard 17, thus supporting the forward end 01 the arm 18 and the pedal mem' ber 14. I
The pedal member 14 of my pedal extension attachment normally rests on a level with the main foot pedal 8, so that when the clothes are pressed and the operator has allowed the main pedal, with his foot on it, to rise, in order'to enable the upper presser head 4 to swing up away from the clothes, the operators foot is on a level with standard, an arm and a pedal member on the forward end of said arm, a second standard secured at its upper end to said arm, and clamps on the lower portion of both of said standards.
2.'A pedal extension attachment adapted to be applied to the lower one of two pedals" comprising a member having a part bent to form a pedal and another part forming a vertical standard, a second vertical standard secured to the pedal portion of said first member and clamps on the lower end of each standard for attaching the stand ards to a pedal,
3. A pedal extension attachment adapted 5 to be applied to the lower one of two pedals comprising a member having a part bent to form a pedal and another part forming a vertical standard, a second vertical standard secured to the pedal portion of said first member, and means for attaching the standards to a pedal. 7 v V In testimony whereof I affix my signature;
