T 0 all! whom ttmag concern Be it known that HARRIET LYONS RED MOND, a. citizen of the United States, and a resident of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, has invented an Improvement in Infants Bands, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts.

This invent-ion relates to infants bands, and particularly to infants bands for use in cases of umbilical hernia or like difliculties, it being an improvement upon the construction shown in my co-pending application Serial Nc. 475,808, filed June 7, 1921.

In order that the principle of the invention may be readily understood, I have disclosed a single embodiment thereof in the accompanying drawing wherein,

Fig. 1 is a plan View of the band when it is opened out or unfolded and looking at the inner face thereof, a portion of the band being broken away to show the tape structure;

Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the band when in its folded condition;

F ig. 3 is a rear elevation thereof in its folded condition; and

Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional view upon the line 44 of Fig. 2.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, the band in its entirety is represented at 1. It may be of any suitable material, but it is preferably knitted and desirably the wales 2 extend lengthwise of the band, so that the band has but little elasticity .or stretch strap 4 which may be of any suitable material, but is preferably woven, so as to give substantial body and firmly to hold the pins 5 which are adapted to be used for securing the folded portion of the body of the band thereto. Preferably I secure a reenforcing woven tape or strap 4 to the face of the-band 2 beneath the tape or strap '4', so that the securing means hereinbefore referred to may be passed through both tapes 4, 4', as well as through the end of the band.- 7

Desirably theband 'is elastically reenforced or protected at the edge 6 throughout its entire extent and including the ends of the tapes or straps 4, 4' and in any suitable manner, as by anelasti'c seaming or other imilar sewing operation. Because of this construction, the edge of the band is of substantially the same degree of elasticity as the body thereof.

In order to adapt the band for its preferred use in cases of umbilical hernia or the like, I provide a pocket 7 at a suitable point. Vvhile the pocket may be formed in any suitable way, I desirably secure to the inner face of the band a piece of knitted material, the wales whereof run at right angles to the direction of the wales in the body of the garment, thus making said pocket laterally expansible for the reception of its contents, the

The band can be secured as tightly as desired, since the several pins may be inserted at suitable points, and thus the band tightly function. p v I 1 V The band is intended to be placed next the skin beneath the usual shirt or undergarment, and is not intended to have a diaper or any part attached to it. Thus it does not become displaced and is not open to the 0bjections that arise in the case of a band forming a part of or attached to the shirt or undergarment and to which the diaper is intended to be attached.

It will be noted that the band .1 is. somewhat tapering in shape and that the tape or strap 4 is attached to the band at or near the larger end, thus permitting the smaller end of the band to be passed under said tape or strap.

Having thus described one illustrative embodiment of my'invention, I desire it to be understood that although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being Set forth in the following claim.
