UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F, WILSON, OF SALEM, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN STOP-VALVES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 147,584, dated Ftbruary 17, 1874; application filed y August 19, 1873.
To au whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. WILSON, of Salem, Columbiana county, Ohio, have invented an Improvement in Stop-Valves, of which the followingis a specification:
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of thel two-seated thorough- Way stop-valve, so as to render the device more simple and efficient.
The case E is formed with seats A B and withdrawing-chamber F. Valves a and b are so formed and fitted that the end of the stem on the back of valve a fits loosely into the hole in the back of valve b and bottoms, so that in the direction of the passage-way through the case E, the valves only touch at the end of the stem on the back of valve a, thus allowing` the faces of the valves to adjust themselves perfectly to the seats A B, either or both of which is made angular, so as to form a wedgeshaped recess. Valve b is made With a socket 4for the reception of the bottom O on the end of operating-screw D.
It will be observed that a Central bearingpoint between the two valve-plates is secured by allowing,` the stem 0n the back of valve a. to bottom in the hole in the carrying-valve b, and that means of ready adjustment to compensate for the wear of the parts may be' had by placing thin disks of metal in the bottom of the hole in valve b. This arrangement allows of ready adjustment of the valves Valve b is made angular between the seats. to conform to seat B.
I claim- The combination of the case E, provided with seats A and B and screw D, provided.
