B. BARK LIGHTING ACCESSORY FOR WICKLESS BURNERS OR STOVES Filed Jan. 36 1925 l/VVi/VTOR je ryaiigze/z z Patented Nov. 27, 1923.
UNITED STATES BENJAMIN BAR-K, 0F ISLEWOBTH, ENGLAND.
LIGHTING ACCESSORY FOR WICKLESS BURNERS OR STOVES.
Application filed January 30, 1923. Serial No. 615,906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN BARK, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Isleworth, Middlesex, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Ligl'iting Accessories for VVickless Burners or Stoves, of which the following is aspecification.
This invention relates to wickless burners or stoves for consuming petroleum, or other suitable liquid fuel, of the kind wherein there is an annular cup, which is normally heated by means of flames produced by the combustion of part of the gaseous combus tible mixture used for supplying the main flame.
According to my invention, there is provided a tubular member, the base of which is adapted to rest in the cup before mentioned and the upper part of which is made with an aperture through which issues the gaseous mixture for forming the main flame. This main flame is used for heating an incandescent mantle which may be advantageously supported on said tubular member in any suitable manner, e. g. by means of a forked stick. Around the base of the tubular member, there is formed a series of small perforations which permit a small portion of the gaseous mixture to pass out and form flames for heating the cup and connected parts, e. g. the vaporizing tube or nozzle of the burner.
By this means, any oil vapour or like burner having an annular cup as above mentioned and primarily designed for cooking or other heating purposes, may be conveniently used for lighting purposes, all that is necessary being to place the tubular member in position in the cup.
In the accompanying drawing 2- Figure 1 is a vertical central section, and
Figure 2 a plan showing my improved device applied to a vapour burner of the cup type and adapted for heating a mantle for lighting by incandescence. I
A. is the cup of a burner of a known type, wherein a vaporizing tube and vapour nozzle B are heated by conduction from the cup which is itself heated by flames issuing from perforations in the side wall of the mixing chamber C, that has within it the air injector tube D.
On the floor A of the cup A, there rests the lower end of a tubular chamber which has a cylindrical wall E and is open at the bottom. This chamber has a domed top F, in the centre of which there is mounted the inlet G of a tubular burner head H of a known type having a wire gauze top J and socket K supported by an internal spider for receiving the mantle stick L.
The lower part of the cylindrical wall is provided with an annular series of holes M, M through which some of the gaseous mixture from the mixing chamber C passes out and forms a series of flames to heat the cup A and connected parts. The major part of the combustible -mixture passes up through the inlet G of the burner head where it is used in the known manner for heating the mantle. N is an annular deflecting ring for the products of combustion from the flames in the cup A. This deflector prevents these products of combustion from clinging to the exterior surfaces of the chamber E, F and burner head and so preventing free access of air to the main flame heating the mantle.
The tubular member may be provided with a loop, such as O, or the like, on its exterior face so that when not required for use it may be lifted off by means of a key, or the like, constructed to engage within the loop, so that the tubular member can be lifted from the burner.
It is obvious that the form of the improved device may be varied without departing from the nature of my invention, for example the chamber E, F may be made hemispherical or conical instead of cylindrical with a domed top. Moreover the burner head H, J, K may be any other suitable known form. m
What I claim is z An accessory for a wickless burner of the type embodying a heated annular cup, said accessory comprising a tubular member having an open lower end adapted to rest in the annular cup of the burner and having a series of apertures adjacent its lower end, a gas deflecting ring surrounding said tubular member, a connection piece extending upwardly from said tubular member, and a burner head carried by said connection piece.
